BAKSHI GETS PUBLIC SAFETY ACT USING FACEBOOK.....

Srinagar, Mar 16: The state
Government has booked tech-savvy
separatist leader Shakeel Bakshi
under the Public Safety Act.
Bakshi, one of the
founders of Islamic Students League,
was arrested from his Batamaloo
residence last month.
The family of Bakshi
castigated authorities for detaining
him under PSA “without any valid
ground.”
“Was silence his crime?
He was sitting at home only. Holding
him on baseless and concocted
charges is sheer high handedness on
part of the government,” his father,
Ghulam Muhammad Bakshi told
Greater Kashmir.
“After detaining him last
month, he was kept under illegal
confinement for five days between
March 10 to March 14 as his remand
had ended,” he further said.
Bakshi, who was first
arrested in 1984 for participating in
student politics in Kashmir
University, was quite active on social
networking website- Facebook-
before his arrest. Since 1984, he was
arrested 14 times and spent more
than 11 years in jails within and
outside the state.
During heydays of armed
struggle in ’90s, he coined the
famous slogan “Anaj Ugaw, Azadi
Paw (cultivate foodgrains, get
freedom).”
He lost his brother Shariq
Ahmed in 1998 and his another
brother Showkat Bakshi spent 14
years in different jails.
A police official, wishing
anonymity, said that Bakshi has
been booked under PSA for
‘instigating youth.’ “The PSA warrant
pending against him was executed
Tuesday and he has been shifted to
Jammu,” he said.
