Who is in Google CEO's inner

most powerful group at Google Inc (GOOG.O)
used to be known simply as 'The OC,' short for
operating committee. Now, it goes by a more
telling name: L Team, short for Larry's Team. The
new members of this team are... The change is
more than a mere rebranding after Google co- founder Larry Page became chief executive nine months ago,
reclaiming a title he last held in 2001. Page has
moved quickly to remake the company in his
image, and this influential group is responsible
for plotting strategic priorities, such as social
networking and mobile computing. In the revamping of the group earlier this year,
Page swapped out several of the executives who
previously had seats at the table and brought in
managers spearheading key initiatives. Among the new members of Page's cabinet are
social networking head Vic Gundotra, Android
mobile chief Andy Rubin and YouTube head Salar
Kamangar, according to people familiar with the
matter. Page meets regularly with the team, which also
includes Google's top finance and legal executives
and is now internally called the L Team, to
discuss, evaluate and approve their plans, from
acquisitions to new products. "All major decisions flow through that group,"
said one of the people, speaking anonymously
because of the confidential nature of the topic. The new team was appointed around the time
that Page took over as CEO and reorganized the
company's management structure. In addition to
placing directors of key product groups under his
direct supervision, and giving those groups more
leeway to operate autonomously, Page transformed the operating committee into the L
Team, a move not reported until now. A Google representative declined to comment on
the changes Page made to the team. The
company also declined to make executives
available for interviews. The revamp is part of Page's efforts to make the
world's No. 1 Web search engine more nimble
and competitive amid a shifting technology
landscape in which Google is increasingly battling
heavyweights like Apple Inc (AAPL.O) and
Facebook. To make room for his new advisers, Page chose
to remove some well-known and powerful
executives from the inner circle instead of
expanding it, according to the sources. They said the executives who have left the group
include Marissa Mayer, the head of Google's local,
maps and location services business; Rachel
Whetstone, its London-based global
communications and public affairs chief; and
Shona Brown, who previously oversaw business operations and now heads the company's
philanthropic arm. Mayer's membership within the group was
particularly short-lived. The former head of
Google's flagship search product and user
experience was appointed to the operating
committee in October 2010, roughly around the
time she was assigned a new job overseeing Google's local business. But she and other executives Page moved out of
his inner circle were not completely sidelined, the
sources said. Mayer still has a "huge job," said
another person familiar with the matter.
Whetsone was promoted to senior vice president
in April. The changes to the group reflect the shifting
influence within Google's top ranks, said first
source, who added that changes were natural
with a new CEO in place. "I think Larry was thoughtful about how he
approached this, and I don't know of too many
bruised egos. Some change is expected to
happen when the power center shifts," the
source said. Page did retain some members of the original
"OC," including finance chief Patrick Pichette, Chief
Business Officer Nikesh Arora and Chief Legal
Officer David Drummond. It was unclear if Eric Schmidt, who ended his 10-
year stint as CEO to become Google's executive
chairman, and co-founder Sergey Brin have
formal roles on the L Team. Schmidt is often traveling as part of his new role,
while Brin focuses on advanced research projects
that are less directly related to the day-to-day
business. Founded by Page and Brin in 1998, Google has
grown into a corporate behemoth, with roughly
$29 billion in revenue last year and nearly $43
billion in cash and securities on its balance sheet
as of the end of September. While Google has dominated Internet searching
for a decade, the company has struggled to find
its footing in social networking, with Facebook,
Twitter and other start-ups stealing Web traffic
and engineering talent. Under Page's watch, Google has launched its
most ambitious challenge to Facebook's social
networking dominance with the Google+ social
network. In August, Google said it would acquire mobile
phone company Motorola Mobility Inc (MMI.N) for
$12.5 billion, a deal that allows Google to add
hardware capabilities to its Android smartphone
software. At the same time, Page has pruned the
company's sprawling portfolio of products,
eliminating projects involving green energy and
health among others, even as headcount has
swelled to more than 31,000 employees. "More wood behind fewer arrows" is how Page
described his approach, when speaking to
analysts on a conference call this summer. "Focus and prioritization are crucial given our
amazing opportunities," he said, noting that
Google had substantially increased its "velocity
and execution" with its new management
structure. (Reporting by Alexei Oreskovic; Editing by Peter

Wifi Attacks And Security Part

Friends as I have already announced
before that we would be writing on
Wifi attacks very soon, The series
consists of three parts( May be more
depending upon your feedback) and
will be covered by John Jeffrey. In
the first Part John explains about the
very basics of Wifi Attacks and
security. Before moving on to the
advanced stuff such as WEP and WPA
Cracking, You need to have the basic
idea of how a wifi connection works.
Wifi stands for Wireless Fidelity, Its a
device that performs the functions of
a router but also includes the
functions of a wireless access point
and a network switch.
They are commonly used to allow
access to the Internet or a computer
networks without the need for a
cabled connection. Wifi is commonly
used in airports , Offices etc
How Wifi Works?
The working of Wifi is pretty simple
to understand. The components of
wireless network includes a
communication device such as a
laptop or a cell pone etc, a router
and internet connection
The communication device which
has a wireless compatibility
( laptops )converts the data in the
form of radio waves and transmits it
to the router, through an antenna.
The router receives the signal and
decodes it. The router sends the
information to the Internet using a
physical, wired Ethernet connection.
The reverse communication follows
the same ( i.e) the router receiving
information from the Internet,
translating it into a radio signals and
sending it to the computer's wireless
adapter.
Whats the Danger?Security is an
important part of a home wireless
network. If you set your router to
create an open hotspot, anyone who
has a wireless card will be able to
use your signal. And he/she will be
able to use your internet
connection .
To protect and keep our internet
private we can use one the following
encryptions
WEPWired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
is a weak security algorithm for
wireless networks. Its intention was
to provide data confidentiality
comparable to that of a traditional
wired network. WEP, recognizable by
the key of 10 or 26 hexadecimal
digits, Its widely in use and is often
the first security choice presented to
users by router configuration tools.
Although its name implies that it is
as secure as a wired connection, WEP
has been demonstrated to have
numerous flaws and has been
deprecated in favor of newer
standards such as WPA2.
WPA And WPA 2WPA (Wi-Fi
Protected Access) and WPA2 (Wi-Fi
Protected Access II ) are two security
protocols for wireless networks from
the Wi-Fi Alliance that was
developed to provide a migration
from WEP.
The Alliance defined these in
response to serious weaknesses
researchers had found in the
previous system, WEP
But these encryptions can also be
broken , The following demo shows
us how easy it is to crack WEP , WPA
keys
DemonstrationIn this following
demonstration Brain Young shows
us how easy it is to crack WEP , WPA
keys
How to Secure Your Wireless
Network
1. Never use WEP as your encryption
type, always use WPA Or WPA 2 as
your encryption type
2.Use strong passwords , which can
not be cracked easily by using a
dictionary attack or brute force
attack
3. Always Use a Vpn when your
using pubic Wifi hotspots
Hope this Information Helps You ,

here is the violence you see, and
then there is the violence you don't.
Philosopher Slavoj Zizek captures
this point expertly in his monograph
Violence: Six Sideways Reflections,
when he opens with the well-known
story about an employee suspected
of stealing from his workplace:
"Every evening, as he leaves the
factory, the wheelbarrow he pushes
in front of him is carefully inspected.
The guards find nothing; it is always
empty. Finally, the penny drops:
what the worker is stealing are the
wheelbarrows themselves. The
guards were simply blinded to the
obvious truth."
In cataloguing world politics, news
media has a tendency to focus our
attention on the highly visible acts of
violent conflict and environmental
degradation, or what Zizek calls
"subjective" violence. This myopic
view, he reasons, disables us from
seeing two other, more pervasive
and "objective" forms of violence:
the "symbolic" violence of language
(e.g. our choice and assembly of
words) and the "systemic" violence
of our economic and political
systems (e.g. the transboundary
harm to small island communities
caused by economic activity in far-
off places).
Simply put, physical injury is only
one form of violence; other forms
exist invisibly in the functioning of
language and power that to a large
extent determine how societies
interrelate. Nowhere is this power
more far-reaching, relatively
unchallenged, and relied upon than
in world news media.
Fairfax's wheelbarrow
For the second time this year,
incidents involving the Australian
press have directed our attention
towards the harm caused by the
routine operation of the media. First,
in what has now been widely
reported, various employees of
News Corporation have been
accused of improperly accessing the
telecommunications services of
targeted individuals in order to
publish more detailed and
revelatory stories about a kidnapped
girl - a simple yet utterly deplorable
case of trying to manufacture an
exclusive scoop.
The second and more recent
revelation has consequences that are
equally significant, but is not so well
known.
Beginning in December 2010, a little-
known Australian journalist Dr Philip
Dorling began authoring what he
hassubsequently referred to as "a
large number of front-page stories
that have shed new light" on
Australia's foreign relations. Each of
the stories, with topics ranging from
the content of US embassy cables to
previously confidential Australian
policy positions, has been based on
"exclusive" access to WikiLeaks
source documents, and published by
Fairfax, one of Australia's largest
newspaper companies.
Despite requests, and is standard
practice elsewhere, neither Fairfax
nor Dr Dorling made the WikiLeaks
material publicly available.
Of particular importance were
reports that since at least 2006,
Australia had - under the previous
Labour government - worked behind
the scenes with the governments of
Britain, Canada and Japan, as well as
with certain Asian and African states,
to ensure that the final text of the
international convention banning
cluster munitions would not
preclude Australian forces jointly
operating alongside states who are
not party to the treaty, and who are
therefore permitted to deploy cluster
bombs. In essence, Australia took a
pro-active public role in promoting
the humanitarian need for a treaty
banning cluster munitions in all their
respects, and quietly went about
undermining what was actually
precluded by the convention.
However, Dr Dorling and Fairfax did
not break their "exclusive" cluster
munitions story until May 2011.
By this time, the final consultation
period before Australia ratified its
highly-criticised interpretation of its
treaty obligations into domestic law
had ended. And with it, a further
seven months of lobbying by various
interest groups advocating for and
against Australia's draft legislation
had passed. Indeed, all indications
since around February were that the
Senate would vote on the bill within
weeks, until that decision was
pushed back to March, April, then
further still to May, June and July.
Indeed, it is only by pure chance that
the Senate has still yet to vote on
whether to pass the bill without
amendment, effectively ending
years of lobbying both here and
overseas.
The months since November 2010,
when Dr Dorling first took possession
of the WikiLeaks material, have
therefore been a unique and critical
time for all interest groups to be
across the finer details of the source
documents. It was, after all,
information intended by WikiLeaks
to be freely accessible in the public
domain - not for the exclusive use of
Dr Dorling and Fairfax.
The obvious truth
It was not until 29 August and
subsequently, however, that ABC's
Media Watch host Jonathan Holmes
was able to publicise details of how
Dr Philip Dorling, acting as a
freelancer, came to acquire exclusive
"sole custody" of the WikiLeaks
cables in November 2010. As a result
of Holmes' investigation, it also
became clear that seniorFairfax
editors had, under pressure since
December 2010 (for example, here
and here), argued that to retain
exclusive access to the WikiLeaks
material enabled Fairfax time to
continue "mining the source
documents", because "to put the
material online would be to give
access to our competitors in the local
market". Holmes rightly summed up
these tensions within Fairfax thus:
"It's in the public interest - including
that of future victims of these nasty
weapons - for the cables to be
posted. It's in Fairfax's commercial
interest to keep them under wraps".
More recently, by this stage learning
that an investigative story Holmes
into the whole affair was due to be
aired on national television,
journalistDr Dorling conceded that
since he produced the first WikiLeaks
scoop for Fairfax in December 2010,
in fact numerous parties had
requested access to the source
documents, including "non-
government organisations,
members of Federal Parliament, one
commercial enterprise, and two
foreign embassies".
In the same memo, Dr Dorling goes
on to acknowledge that he was fully
aware that at the same time, the
international treaty discussed in
many of the WikiLeaks documents
was to be immanently ratified into
domestic law. Curiously, Dr Dorling
reasons that he denied access to the
WikiLeaks cables to all of the
requesting parties because, in his
words:
"Since I am a journalist and not a
partisan for any particular cause, I
took the view that it would be
inappropriate for me to meet any of
these requests, no matter how
forcefully the demands for access
were made or my own views about
the merits or otherwise of their
particular political campaign or
other interests".

Turkish hackers strike websites with DNS hackWebsites belonging to major companies were redirected to adefacement page via DNS record tampering

September 5, 2011 08:12 AM ET
IDG News Service - A Turkish hacking group managed to tamper
with Internet addressing records over the weekend, redirecting
dozens of websites belonging to companies including Microsoft,
UPS and Vodafone to a different web pages controlled by the
hackers.
According to Zone-H, a website that tracks defacements, 186
websites were redirected to a page controlled by
"Turkguvenligi." A message on the redirect page read: "4 Sept.
We Turkguvenligi declare this day as World Hackers Day - Have
fun ;) h4ck y0u."
All of the websites were registered through NetNames, which is
part of NBT group. NetNames provides DNS (Domain Name
System) services for the websites, which is the system used to
translates a domain name into an IP address that can be called
into a webbrowser.
Turkguvenligi managed to hack NetName's DNS servers through
a SQL injection attack, which involves putting commands into a
web-based form to see if the back-end database responds. If
those commands aren't scanned for malicious code, an attacker
could gain access to the system.
In the case of NetNames, Turkguvenligi put a redelegation order
into the company's system and changed the address of the
master DNS servers that served data for the websites, according
to a statement from NetNames. The attack occurred around 9
p.m. BST on Sunday.
"The rogue name server then served incorrect DNS data to
redirect legitimate web traffic intended for customer web sites
through to a hacker holding page branded Turkguvenligi," the
statement read. "The illegal changes were reversed quickly to
bring service back to the customers impacted and the accounts
concerned have been disabled to block any further access to the
systems."
The hack accomplished by Turkguvenligi is a powerful one.
Although it appears the goal of the group was just to vandalize
the sites for a while, the group could have set up lookalike sites
for the real ones, tricking users into thinking they were on the
legitimate site and possibly stealing logins and passwords.
Two of HSBC's banking sites -- one with a country-code Top Level
Domain in South Korea and one in Canada -- were targeted,
according to the list compiled by Zone-H.
Other websites affected were those belonging to The Telegraph
newspaper, The Register technology news site, Coca-Cola,
Interpol, Adobe,Dell, several Microsoft country sites, Peugeot,
Harvard University and the security companies F-Secure,
BitDefender and Secunia. The website for Gary McKinnon, the so-
called NASA hacker who is appealing extradition to the U.S. on
hacking charges, was also hit.
The Register wrote that its website was not breached and that
service was restored about three hours after the attack.
"As far as we can tell there was no attempt to penetrate our
systems,"wrote Drew Cullen . "But we shut down access/services
- in other words, anything that requires a password - as a
precaution."NSSEC, a security measure now being deployed by many
registrars to guard against DNS tampering may not have
prevented this kind of attack, said Paul Mutton , a security analyst
with Netcraft.
DNSSEC uses public key cryptography to digitally "sign" the DNS
records for websites. It is designed to stop attacks such as cache
poisoning, where a DNS server is hacked, making it possible for a
user to type in the correct website name but be directed to a
fake website.
"If the attacker was able to change the DNS settings held by the
domain registrar, presumably they could also have changed
other settings, such as disabling DNSSEC, or rather, simply
change the DNS settings to point to nameservers that do not
support DNSSEC."
NetNames described the attacks against its systems as being
"sustained and concentrated." "We will continue to review our
systems to ensure that we provide our customers a solid, robust
and above all secure service," it said.

Axe falls on 7 BJP MLAs Suspended From Party Membership CASH-FOR-VOTE CONTROVERSY

Apr 20: The Parliamentary
Board of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
Wednesday suspended the party’s
seven MLAs from Jammu and
Kashmir from primary membership
after it found them guilty of cross-
voting during the recently held
Legislative Council polls in the state.
The party also issued show-cause
notice to the members to explain
under what circumstances they
violated the party whip.
The Parliamentary Board, the
highest decision-making body of BJP,
met at New Delhi and instead of
taking any harsh action against the
MLAs involved in cross-voting
decided to suspend them from the
primary membership of the party.
“ The Board also constituted an
inquiry committee under the
chairmanship of party’s J&K in-
charge O P Kohli to further probe the
matter,” party sources said.
The BJP Parliamentary Board
comprises Nitin Gadkari chairman,
Anant Kumar secretary and Atal
Behari Vajpayee, L K Advani, Murli
Manohar Joshi, M Venkaiah Naidu,
Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun
Jaitley, Prof Bala Saheb Apte, Thawar
Chand Gehlot and Ramlal Ji as
members.
“ The party has suspended seven
MLAs from Jammu and Kashmir for
cross-voting in recent Legislative
Council polls,” Ananth Kumar told
reporters after the meeting.
Party sources said that it was found
that four MLAs including Ashok
Khajuria, Jugal Kishore Sharma,
Shyam Choudhary and Choudhary
Sukhnandan had voted in favour of
the party candidate, Ranjeet Singh
during the April 13 LC polls, while all
other MLAs including Leader of BJP
Legislature Party leader Chaman Lal
Gupta, Garu Ram, Jagdish Raj Sapolia,
Durga Dass, Baldev Raj Sharma and
Bodj Raj Bodhi and Lal Chand were
suspended for cross-voting.
“ The party has also issued a show-
case notice to all seven MLAs to clear
their position within a week,” party
sources said. “Further action against
the members would be taken after
they submit their reply to the notice
and the enquiry report by the
committee constituted for the
purpose”, sources said.
The party high command had
secured the resignation of all its 11
MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir, after
seven of them cross-voted in the
Legislative Council elections held on
April 13. Seven out of the 11 MLAs
had voted for the National
Conference-Congress alliance
candidates.
BJP President Nitin Gadkari had held
a meeting with party MLAs from
Jammu and Kashmir at his residence
on Monday and authorized the
Parliamentary Board to take the final
decision on the matter. The party’s
central leadership had taken strong
exception to seven of its MLAs voting
against the party line during
elections.
The cross-voting triggered protests
from BJP leaders and workers in the
state. Dejected and disappointed by
cross-voting, BJP activists have
warned to resign en mass in case
party fails to bring the guilty to
book.

SIGNS OF FINAL HOUR ......DOOMSDAY.........

Signs of the Final Hour:
Fourteen hundred years ago, the Prophet Muhammad (saas) related
a number of secrets concerning the Doomsday, and of his thoughts
about it, to his Muslim companions.
These valuable words have been passed down from generation to
generation to the present day in the form of books of hadiths and
works of Islamic sc...holars. The hadiths used in the coming sections
of this book contain such information given by the Prophet (saas) in
this regard.
At this point, there may arise some doubt in the reader in regards to
the truth and authenticity of these hadiths about the end. It is a
recognized fact that, in the past, there had been a number of
fabricated hadiths falsely attributed to the Prophet (saas), but the
hadiths that form the subject of our inquiry will be easily recognized
as issuing from the Prophet (saas). There is a method to distinguish
those that are true from those that are false.
As we know, hadiths about the Doomsday relate to events that are
to take place in the future. For this reason, when a hadith comes true
in the course of time, all doubt as to the source of the words is
removed.
Several Islamic scholars who conducted research on the subject of
the End Times and of the signs of the Last Day have used this
criterion. An expert on the subject, Bediuzzaman Said Nursi, said
that the fact that the hadiths concerning the End Times correspond
to events observed in our day shows the truth of the hadiths.
Some of the signs related in the hadiths were observable in some
part of the world in any period during the 1400 year history of Islam,
but that would not have proven that that period was the the End
Times. For a certain period to be called the End Times, all the signs of
the Last Day must be observed to be occurrence in that same period.
This is expressed in a hadith:
Signs following one another like the pieces of a necklace falling one
after the other when its string is cut.
(Tirmidhi)
When we examine the End Times in the light of the information
related above, we come up with a surprising conclusion. The signs
that the Prophet (saas) described in detail are occurring one after
the other in every corner of the world, just in the way they were
described in the age in which we live. It is so that the hadiths paint a
perfect portrait of our time.
This is indeed a miracle, and demands careful consideration. Every
sign that occurs is to remind people once again that the Doomsday
is very near, a day when they will give account of themselves in the
presence of Allah, and therefore, that they should immediately apply
the moral values of the Qur ’an to their lives.
Most people know at least something about the Last Day.
Almost everyone has heard one thing or another about the horror of
the Hour.
Nevertheless, most tend to have the same reaction to it as they do to
other matters of vital importance, that is, they do not want to speak
or even think about it.
They try very hard not trying to think about the terror they will
experience on the Last Day.
They cannot bear the reminders of the Last Day found in a news
report of a terrible accident or a film report about some
disaster. They avoid thinking about the fact that that day will
certainly come.
They do not want to listen to others who talk about that great day,
or to read authors ’ works about it.
These are some of the ways that people have developed in order to
escape the dread of thinking about the Last Day.
Many do not seriously believe that the Hour is coming. We are
presented with an example of this in a verse of Surat al-Kahf, about
the wealthy owner of a rich vineyard:
I do not think the Hour will ever come. But if I should be sent back to
my Lord, I will definitely get something better in return. (Surat al-
Kahf: 36)
The above verse reveals the true mentality of someone who
professes to believe in Allah but avoids thinking about the reality of
the Last Day and puts forward claims contradicting some verses of
the Qur'an. Another verse relates the doubt and uncertainty that
engulfs disbelievers in regards to the time of the end.
When you were told, “Allah’s promise is true and so is the Hour, of
which there is no doubt,” you said, “We have no idea what the Hour
is. We have only been conjecturing. We are by no means
certain. ” (Surat al-Jathiya: 32)
Some people entirely deny that the Last Day is coming. Those who
have this opinion are mentioned in the Qur ’an as follows:
But instead, they deny the Hour; and We have prepared a Searing
Blaze for those who deny the Hour. (Surat al-Furqan: 11)
The source that can guide us on the way and show us the truth is the
Qur ’an.
When we look at what it says, we learn an obvious fact. Those who
deceive themselves about the Last Day commit a grave error,
because Allah reveals in the Qur ’an that there can be no doubt that
the Last Day is near.
And the Hour is coming without any doubt ... (Surat al-Hajj: 7)
We did not create the heavens and earth and everything between
them, except with truth. The Hour is certainly coming. (Surat al-Hijr:
85)
The Hour is coming—there is no doubt about it …(Surat al-Mu’min:
59)
There may be some who think that the message of the Qur’an
concerning the Last Day was revealed more that 1400 years ago and
that this is a long time compared to the length of a human life. But
here, it is a question of the end of the world, the sun and the stars, in
short, of the universe. When we consider that the universe is billions
of years old, fourteen centuries is a very short period of time.
A great Islamic scholar of recent times, Bediuzzaman Said Nursi,
responded to a similar question in this way:
The Qur’an says, “The Hour has drawn nigh.” (Surat al-Qamar: 1)
That is, Doomsday is near. It still not having come after a thousand
or this many years does not injure its closeness. Because, Doomsday
is the appointed hour of the world, and in relation to the life of the
world one or two thousand years are like one or two minutes in
relation to a year.
The Hour of Doomsday is not only the appointed hour of mankind
that it should be related to it and seen as distant.
Allah’s promises are certainly true. No one can change His promises
or prevent their fulfillment. As in every matter, the best and most
beautiful words in this matter are stated in the Qur ’an:
Say: “Praise be to Allah. He will show you His Signs and you will
recognize them...” (Surat an-Naml: 93)

Hybrid spintronic computer chips a step closer to reality

Washington, April 14 (ANI): Hybrid
spintronic computer chips are now
one step closer to reality.
Researchers have developed the first
electronic circuit to merge traditional
inorganic semiconductors with
organic "spintronics".
"Spintronics" are devices that utilize
the spin of electrons to read, write
and manipulate data.
Ezekiel Johnston-Halperin, assistant
professor of physics, and his team
combined an inorganic
semiconductor with a unique plastic
material that is under development
in colleague Arthur J. Epstein's lab at
Ohio State University.
Johnston-Halperin, Epstein, and their
colleagues have incorporated the
plastic device into a traditional circuit
based on gallium arsenide.
The researchers have described how
they transmitted a spin-polarized
electrical current from the plastic
material, through the gallium
arsenide, and into a light-emitting
diode (LED) as proof that the organic
and inorganic parts were working
together.
"Hybrid structures promise
functionality that no other materials,
neither organic nor inorganic, can
currently achieve alone," said
Johnston-Halperin.
"We've opened the door to linking
this exciting new material to
traditional electronic devices with
transistor and logic functionality. In
the longer term this work promises
new, chemically based functionality
for spintronic devices," added
Johnston-Halperin.
Normal electronics encode computer
data based on a binary code of ones
and zeros, depending on whether an
electron is present or not within the
material. But researchers have long
known that electrons can be
polarized to orient in particular
directions, like a bar magnet. They
refer to this orientation as spin-either
"spin up" or "spin down"-and this
approach, dubbed spintronics, has
been applied to memory-based
technologies for modern computing.
Spintronic logic would theoretically
require much less power, and
produce much less heat, than current
electronics, while enabling
computers to turn on instantly
without "booting up."
Hybrid and organic devices further
promise computers that are lighter
and more flexible, much as organic
LEDs are now replacing inorganic
LEDs in the production of flexible
displays.
A spintronic semiconductor must be
magnetic, so that the spin of
electrons can be flipped for data
storage and manipulation. Few
typical semiconductors - that is,
inorganic semiconductors - are
magnetic. Of those that are, all
require extreme cold, with operating
temperatures below -150 degrees
Fahrenheit or -100 degrees Celsius.
That's colder than the coldest
outdoor temperature ever recorded
in Antarctica.
"In order to build a practical
spintronic device, you need a
material that is both semiconducting
and magnetic at room temperature.
To my knowledge, Art's organic
materials are the only ones that do
that," said Johnston-Halperin.

Nicotine withdrawalsymptoms

The brain of a smoker is physically
addicted to nicotine.
Nicotine provides an instant,
artificial and alternative “reward
system” in a smoker’s brain. Once a
smoker quits, this system is longer
available and thus the brain revolts.
This revolt is collectively known as
Nicotine withdrawal symptom.
Following are some of the
immediate symptoms that show up
within 24 hours to 3 weeks of
smoking your last cigarette.
Symptom1 - Headaches & dizziness
A recovering smoker will have a lot
of mild headaches! It is best drink
water and battle the heaviness with
a few cups of herbal tea. The intense
and constant craving may even
make you feel breathless and dizzy.
It is best to lie down and let the
feeling subside when this happens.
Symptom 2 - The cold
The proverbial cold (play) occurs
within the first two weeks of quitting
smoking. Years of smoking sort of
fogs the smoker’s lungs (literally) so
once you stop smoking your lungs
automatically start to eject the
chemicals roomed-up in it.
Coughing, sneezing, sore throats and
other respiratory problems are a
part of this process. Take some
medication if it is unbearable. The
smoker may also experience dry
mouth along with the cold.
Symptom 3 - Boredom and
loneliness
Boredom being a constant excuse of
the ex-smoker shows up in a big
way once you quit smoking. You will
feel like nothing in the world can
keep you engaged, the colors fade
and things that normally keep you
occupied suddenly fail to do so. This
constant state of boredom invites
loneliness.
Symptom 4 - Restlessness, anxiety,
nervousness, tension et al
Most smokers feel that they can’t
concentrate once they stop smoking.
This is due to the lack of nicotine in
the blood stream immediately after
quitting smoking. The body
constantly pounds the brain of the
smoker and begs it to replenish the
nicotine level. This constant struggle
is a very physical thing and thus the
smoker feels anxious, nervous,
irritated and restless.
Symptom 5 - Insomnia
Insomnia is one of the worst and
most troublesome part of the
recovery process. Keep in mind, this
is also one of the symptoms which
leads to relapse in most of the cases.
Nicotine acts as a sedative of sorts
and had a calming effect on the
brain. Also to many smokers
smoking a cigarette before bed is a
very integral part of their daily
routine. So once you stop smoking
you might observe a disturbance in
your sleeping pattern which is very
difficult to cope with. Drink some
warm milk or do some light
exercises before going to bed or
even read a book- these things are
grossly understated but help a lot.
Symptom 6 - Digestive problems
Constipation/diarroehea is also a
common nicotine withdrawal
symptom. The digestive system is
sensitive to nicotine in the
bloodstream. Many smokers are
familiar with the sensation of
needing to use the bathroom after
having a cigarette. The digestive
system can become dependent on
the stimulation, and when it is
removed, the result can be
constipation and other digestive
problems. But these are just
temporary and will subside within
the first week.

THE BANALITY OF THE INDIANCRICKET FAN

DK is reproducing a wonderful piece
regarding Indian Cricket, Indian
Commentators and The Indian Crowd
by Aakar Patel. It appeared in the
Livemint on March 31, 2011.
THE BANALITY
OF THE INDIAN CRICKET FAN
One of the disappointing things about
the World Cup was that it was played
on the subcontinent. It is thought that
India loves cricket. This is incorrect.
India loves India. Cricket gives us the
opportunity to express this affection.
The local cricket match in India is
unattended. Even World Cup matches
featuring two other sides will be
played without spectators, no matter
what the calibre of the players. This is
unlike World Cup football, or
American football and basketball.
What attracts Indian spectators isn’t
cricket the sport in that sense.
Let us observe the pattern of crowd
behaviour.
Indian spectators express themselves
physically, through dancing,
screaming and jumping about. This is
done communally, in groups often
including middle-aged men. It is done
emotionally, with strong facial
expression. Sunil Gavaskar says he
was amazed to first play at Lord ’s 40
years ago because of the way the
audience applauded. It was, he said,
always three claps. Clap-clap-clap-
silence. But that is why cricket is an
English sport. We behave like a WWF
audience. Strange things excite us.
Like Kolkatans setting their stands
alight at the end of a match, a
neanderthal fascination with fire.
In European nations (I mean race, not
geography and so: England, Australia,
South Africa, New Zealand), spectator
behaviour is more individual. Where
communication is visual, it is not
through facial expression, but fancy
dress.
Instead of screaming, expression is
through the written word: banners.
In India, signs are held up which are
either obvious or embarrassingly
banal. A decade ago, they were also
poorly spelled. These days they ’re not
because advertisers hand out printed
ones. This defeats the purpose of
spectator banners, and that is
spontaneity. There is never real
humour, which can only come when
we are able to laugh at ourselves.
In February 1993, South Africa were
chasing 208 against Pakistan at
Durban. From 158 for 1 they were all
out for 198, five of them clean-bowled
by the great Waqar Younis.
As his yorkers were bringing doom to
the last few, a South African held up a
large sheet on which she had
scrawled “WAQAR THE SPRINGBOK
FAQAR”. So clever, I remember it 18
years later. Indians write rubbish.
Foreign commentators often say that
the crowd in Chennai is
“ knowledgeable”. In saying this, they
mean that they don’t go off on bump
balls, like the crowd does elsewhere in
India.
One unique thing is how Indian
spectators are silent when the other
team scores. On television it ’s as if the
screen has gone mute. It’s not about
enjoying a sport and appreciating the
ability of professionals to play it. It ’s
about nationalism, which in India is
narrow and zero-sum. If they score
even a little victory, a boundary, our
tumescence droops. The Bengali
thinks he ’s different, but this is untrue.
Imminent defeat against the Lankans
in 1996 ’s World Cup resulted in
Kolkatans rioting in Eden Gardens,
and, as Indians tend to do, damaging
the property that they could barely
afford.
The Indian team is overrated because
our fierce nationalism inflates its
capacity. This has been amplified
recently because of our economic
power. Ten years ago, opponents
thought little of us, and rightly.
Against the quality team, India ’s
record is to fold. We regularly get a
thrashing from Australia (won 36, lost
61), old enemy Pakistan (47:69), and
newcomers South Africa (24:40). Even
West Indies, 25 years in decline, have
a superior record (39:54).
Usually, Indians are happy if their
team wins the skirmish and loses the
battle. This is because national
honour is often safeguarded by the
hero. The astute Ian Chappell noticed
that Indians were content if Sachin
Tendulkar scored his hundred even if
India then lost. In Australia, this
would never happen, he said, and it
would be seen as defeat, which it is.
Since his audience telegraphs this, the
Indian cricketer plays for himself
much more than players of other
sides. An analysis of Tendulkar ’s
scoring pattern between 90 and 100
will be interesting.
The other thing that separates the
Indian audience from the European is
the level of security.
David Gower remarked on why
Indians flung things at fielders on the
boundary. The intent wasn ’t to hurt,
he said generously, just to distract,
“ though there were one or two good
arms out there”.
Why do we throw things? It’s difficult
for others to follow our manner of
forcibly inserting ourselves into the
action through such simian
behaviour.
The Indian is deeply prejudiced
against Africans and black players
have always been targeted (some will
be offended by this sweeping
allegation. I am open to the
suggestion that the Indian is an
equal-opportunity vandal). A bottle
hit Vasbert Drakes at Rajkot in 2002.
This sort of thing has now stopped.
Why? Because Indian spectators are
watched over, like inmates.
On all Indian grounds, a wire mesh
now separates players from the
unpredictable Indian audience. This is
shameful, but passes unnoticed in our
culture. In Australia, New Zealand,
South Africa, West Indies and England,
this isn ’t needed.
The policing here is excessive, but
necessary. Geoffrey Boycott was upset
after his sandwiches were confiscated
by security in Delhi in February. I
sympathize with him for being forced
to eat the crew ’s Mughlai lunch. Sir
Geoffrey is working class and sees no
appeal in the exotic. I think a bit of
racial profiling is fine, and we should
be firm only with Indians.
The greatest commentators in sport
are Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen who
for years have guided Tour de France
viewers through the countryside.
Their quality has elevated the event.
Second best is Channel 9 ’s team of
Richie Benaud and Ian Chappell (I
don ’t like Bill Lawry: too excitable). Of
the others, West Indians Michael
Holding and Ian Bishop are first rate:
polished, elegant speakers.
Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri are
second rate: no lucidity, little insight
and speaking only in stock phrase and
cliche. In Shastri’s case, this is often
incorrect cliche: “You can be rest
assured...” Sanjay Manjrekar is better
and so, though more evidence is
needed, is Sourav Ganguly.
Navjot Singh Sidhu is original, and
perfect for Indians. He ’s
Wodehousian, spouting rubbish with
an air of magnificence. A sort of
developing world ’s Psmith. It is why
he’s so popular with us, because the
equation is: content < spectacle.
Harsha Bhogle works on his language,
and is committed enough to wear a
hairpiece, but he ’s fluffy and boring—
a unique double whammy. If we must
have fluff, I prefer Mandira Bedi.
Lovely body and she puts it on display
well.
The one way Indian commentators
could immediately improve would be
to talk less. Gavaskar says his best
lesson in commentary was in
Australia when he was with Benaud.
When an Indian batsman hit his
hundred, the crowd applauded.
Gavaskar brought the microphone to
his mouth, but stopped when he felt
Benaud ’s hand on his wrist. Gavaskar
said later he realized Benaud wanted
the TV audience to take in the
moment of the batsman in his
solitude, a gladiator in an arena.
Lesson not learnt and no chance of
enjoying this in India, with Bhogle
and Shastri twittering over
everything, and the crowd screaming
all the time (silent only during enemy
advance).
Between its spectators and
commentators, Indians have ruined
cricket for everybody. With the
growth of our economy, this has got
worse. Indian money has been
poured into cricket, sloshing in its
crevices, spilling out of its guts.
For Indian players this has meant
more cash—vast sums from
advertising. For Indian spectators it
has meant more advertising.
Advertisements between overs,
advertisements between balls.
Intrusive, invasive, relentless,
shameless flogging. Strokes renamed
by sponsors, sixes renamed after
sponsors. Such vulgarity is not off-
putting to Indians, which is why it
continues and has increased in time.
This could never happen in Australia
or England. These places are the
refuge for fundamentalists who like
cricket played, shown and seen in the
orthodox fashion.
Those who wake early to watch the
beautiful Test match telecast from
Australia are inevitably rewarded. The
crunch of the ball hitting the pitch is
always clear. The ads for cricket
memorabilia are always tasteful.
There is the restrained commentary,
the women in bikinis (unthinkable in
Delhi), the glasses of cold beer
(unthinkable in Ahmedabad). Relaxed
bodies on sloping green knolls.
No danger of such small rewards of
civilization ever reaching our shores,
but at least we have Sachin.

The Seven Wonders of Muslim World!

Bismillah hir rahmanir rahim
Asalaam O Alaikum Wahrahmatullahi
Wahbarkatuhu
All praise be to Allah!
The Seven Wonders of Muslim World:
1. The Grand Mosque in Mecca is the
largest mosque in the world. At its
centre is the Kaaba, a cubic building
covered in a gold-embroidered black
cloth towards which Muslims turn as
they pray.
Every year, millions of people perform
the Hajj -- the pilgrimage during the
12th month of the Islamic year -- and
many others make the pilgrimage at
other times of year, which is called
the Umrah.
2. The Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem,
Islam's third holiest city is situated
next to the Dome of the Rock.
This iconic golden dome can be seen
from all over Jerusalem.
Al-Aqsa, dates from the late 7th
century, making it one of the oldest
mosques in the world.
3. The Alhambra in Granada, Spain,
which dates from the 13th century,
was designed by Muslim architects
and built by the Muslim rulers of El
Andaluz, or Andalucia.
It was inspired by Qur'anic
descriptions of paradise as an oasis,
with trees, fountains and buildings.
4. The Blue Mosque in Istanbul, lined
with blue tiles and reflecting the
Byzantine church architecture of 400
years ago,
expresses the sumptuousness of the
Ottoman Empire and represents the
zenith of Muslim architecture.
5. The Great Mosque of Djenne in Mali
is the tallest mud-built mosque in the
world. Its thick walls and many roof
supports make it dark and simple
inside.
Every Friday, people in this huge but
poor country come into the city to
pray here.
6. The Imam Mosque in Esfahan, Iran,
is magnificent in its design and
decoration.
Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, it
was a stunning statement of Persian
imperial power, and incorporates a
pool, colleges and communal space,
as well as the mosque itself.
7. The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore,
Pakistan was built in 1673 and is a
wonderful example of Mughal
architecture.

Kashmiris populated Europe40,000 years back: Study‘Archeologically Proven ThatNeanderthal Man Lived In Valley’

Srinagar, Mar 31: An international
study has found that Europe was
populated by people from Kashmir
around 40,000 years back and that
they carry two to four percent
Neanderthal genes – an ancient
species of homosapiens.
The study, conducted by the UC Davis
Anthropology Department at the
United States of America, has found
that about four percent (ranging
from two to five percent) of all
modern humans not of African
descent have Neanderthal genes left
over from matings between the two
peoples in prehistoric times.
Referring to the study, an article in
allvoices—a global community that
shares news, videos, images and
opinions tied to news events and
people—reads that “scientists look
for genetic signatures to classify an
individual’s mtDNA (mitochondria
DNA) into different types, or
haplogroups. These haplogroups
represent major branches on the
family tree of Homo sapiens. A
30,000-year old Russian cave man
had U2 mtDNA. And people in Europe
today have U2 DNA as well as people
living in India.”
“You have numerous people with
U2e, the European version of U2
living in Europe, especially in Italy
today, and Germany as well as other
places in Europe. It’s widely
distributed throughout all of Europe
in current times. And you have
India-specific U2i mtDNA living
primarily in India, especially NW
India and Kashmir,” reads an excerpt
from the study, published by
allvoices. “So was Europe populated
by people from India, Kashmir, and
Pakistan as well as the rest of Central
Asia? Yes. And after that migration,
around 40,000 years ago moving
West into Russia and then into the
rest of Europe came another
migration from the Middle East,
when climate allowed it to open up,
around 45,000 years ago. A lot of
those cave people were mammoth
hunters or followed the animal herds
before the last ice age began. But U2
in Europe is still pretty rare in
modern populations, although it
does exist.”
Quoting another study published by
Cosmos Magazine, the study reveals
that as humans migrated out of
Africa 100,000 to 50,000 years ago,
some individuals interbred with
Neanderthal and as a result some
genetic sequences can be found in all
non-African humans.
A number of articles have in the past
six months appeared in
international media—quoting
different studies—that Neanderthal
genes have been found in some
modern humans.
“ Neanderthals were more muscular
with more body fat, a wide waist,
and also had a wide rib cage, short
limbs, stocky, short bodies, and
didn’t run very fast. The circular
bones in their inner ears that helped
to control gait, kept them from
moving fast on foot. In contrast,
Homo sapiens had larger circular
bones in their ears, allowing them to
run fast. They were tall and thin,”
reads the allvoices piece. “Basically,
homo sapiens were perfectly suited
to African climate. Neanderthals
were suited to very cold weather, for
example, the climate in ice age
Europe. Neanderthals had larger
brains and heads, but were shorter
in height and had short life spans.
But both had similar hyoid bones,
allowing for at least basic speech.”
According to excerpts, it is
archeologically a proven fact that
Neanderthal man—a long extinct
species—has lived in Kashmir.
“Archeologically one can establish
that Neanderthal man has lived in
Kashmir, Pakistan and Central Asia.
However we cannot say whether his
genes are still available in these
areas or not,” said Prof Aijaz Banday,
professor of Archaeology at the
University of Kashmir. “Unless and
until we have the DNA profile of the
people in these areas, then only it
can be properly established. That
profiling has not been done so far.
One cannot outrightly deny such
studies that Neanderthal genes are
present in Kashmir, but we can
authentically prove it only after
going for the DNA profiling.”

MIRACLE OF QURAN : DEATH OF THESTARS AND THE SUN

- When the stars are put out.
77-The Emissaries, 8 [077 SURE AL-
MURSALAT, 8V]
At the time of the descent of the
Quran, people believed that the light
of the stars would last forever. This
at a time when the inner structure of
the stars was a mystery and the fact
that the energy of the stars would,
one day, be exhausted was not
known. The Quran’s prediction about
the end of the stars is a miraculous
statement.
2- When the planets are scattered.
82-The Shattering, 2 [082 SURE AL-
INFITAAR, 2V]
While the verses speak of the putting
out of stars, the planets, not light
sources, will scatter. The Arabic word
for a star is “najm,” while “kavkab” is
a planet. Given the fact that the
planets are dependent on a central
star, when this star is no more, the
planets will necessarily scatter.
(There have been translators who
translated both words as stars
without heeding the difference
between them.) Planets are not light
sources, therefore their extinction is
out of question. The Quran displays
its miraculous attribute in all its
statements.
1- When the sun is rolled.
81-The Rolling, 1 [081 SURE AT-
TAKVEER, 1V]
The Arabic word “takwir” refers to
the wrapping of the turban around
the head in a spiral form; it also
means the rolling or winding of a
thing into a ball or round mass, or
around something. The scene
describes how the end of the sun will
come. Like all the other stars, our sun
also consumes hydrogen atoms by
transforming them into helium
atoms and releasing energy in the
form of radiation, heat and light. The
transformation of hydrogen into
helium stops with the exhaustion of
the hydrogen. Even without the
effect of other potential causes, the
sun will have to come to an end for
this reason. Before their extinction,
the stars, according to their sizes,
pass through such phases as red
giant, white dwarf or black hole. In
view of its magnitude, our sun must
turn first into a red giant before
dying.
The sun has been a subject of
worship in the history of mankind.
People who did not believe in the
end of the universe considered the
sun itself to be an immortal divinity
and thought that the universe and
the earth would last eternally; there
have been those who believed in the
transmigration of souls
everlastingly. Having eventually
been convinced by scientific
discoveries that the world was
doomed to die one day, the minds
that idolized the sun and the belief in
the eternal reincarnation cycle lost
their support. The belief in the
Hereafter described in the Quran and
the end of the universe are
interconnected as the stages of a
system. Taking cognizance of the fact
that the end of the universe will
eventually come has reinforced the
belief in the Hereafter.
7- And verily the Hour is coming, no
doubt about it, and that God will
resurrect those who are dead.
22-The Pilgrimage, 7 [022 SURE AL-
HAJJ, 7V]
The description of the end of the
universe in the Quran relating to the
end of the sun and of the world is
given in striking colors. What the
people at the Prophet’s time knew
about astronomy could not possibly
have permitted them to describe
such occurrences. Muslims who lived
at the time of the revelation of the
Quran believed in all these, not
because of scientific deductions but
because they had faith in the fact
that it was easy for God, the Creator
of the heavens and the earth, to
destroy them. All the statements of
the Quran about the disappearance
of the stars, the sun and the earth
are corroborated today by scientific
discoveries.
EARTHQUAKES WITH BOILING SEAS
4- When the earth will be shaken
up.
56-The Inevitable, 4 [056 SURE AL-
WAQIYA, 4V]
When the Hour comes, the entire
earth will be shaken by a terrible
earthquake. The Quran says that the
tremor will cause mountains to be
pulverized, and men will run to and
fro in panic. As for the sea, we have
the following indications:
6- When the seas boil.
81-The Rolling, 6 [081 SURE AT-
TAKVEER, V 6]
3- When the seas are suffered to
burst forth.
82-The Shattering, 3 [082 SURE AL-
INFITAAR, V 3]
An earthquake will pulverize
mountains, hot lava will burst forth
from many corners of the earth.
Volcanoes will erupt and lava will
rise from the sea. It is unlikely that
the depiction of the end of the world
was an exaggeration of natural
disasters that Muhammad
experienced in his lifetime. The area
where Muhammad lived was not on
a major earthquake fault-line, and
those who spent most of their lives
in the middle of desert, most likely,
never witnessed the eruption of a
volcano in mid-ocean!
5- When the wild beasts are
summoned.
81-The Rolling, 5 [081 SURE AT-
TAKVEER, V 5]
The Quran draws our attention to
the herding together of animals. We
know today that animals react to a
tremor even before we, as human
beings, realize it. For instance, in the
zoo in Seattle Woodland, the odd
movements of elephants and the
restlessness of gorillas in their cages
were observed before the
earthquake was felt by human
beings. This is a domain in which
further research studies are being
conducted. In view of this statement
of the Quran, we think that this
research should be intensified.
3- And when the earth is flattened
out.
4- And when it throws out
whatever it contains and is empty.
84-The Splitting, 3-4 [084 SURE AL-
INSHAQAQ, V 3, V4]
The contents of the earth, the
magma, the molten rock, will rise to
the surface as lava, as described in
the verses quoted.
The Quran would like us to turn our
attention to the most serious event
of earth history to come. Advanced
science has demonstrated that the
end of the world and the universe is
inevitable. No one can assert any
longer that the stars and the sun will
shine forever, and that the universe
and the earth will abide to eternity.
18- Are they waiting until the Hour
comes to them suddenly? Its signs
have already appeared. How can
they benefit then when it has come
upon them?
47-Muhammad, 18 [047 SURE

Rapper MC Kash creates storm as “ One Young Kashmir” summit ends

Kashmir’s lone rapper Roushan Illahi
aka MC Kash on Sunday created
waves with his Kashmir centric
performance which marked the
conclusion of first even youth
summit in Valley. The summit
named as “One Young Kashmir”
drew hundreds of youth from all
parts of Kashmir to chalk out their
strategy for a brighter future and
take leadership to show a pragmatic
path. They pledged to work for
preservation of culture, awareness of
rights and making economy the
focus of their future initiatives.
Amidst fear and violence over 2000
young boys and girls from all over
Kashmir turned up for the summit
opened up last Sunday. Today they
turned hysteric as the Rapper MC
Kash tapped on the podium with
“Kiss the soil and vow, to make our
Kashmir better” with his husky
voice. All the participants gave a
standing ovation to him as he
touched the core of sufferings in
present day Kashmir. He ended with
a Kashmir proverb “Akh Te Akh Gaye
Kah” which means one plus one is
eleven.
On Saturday, enthusiastic Kashmiri
boys and girls reached out to nearly
14,000 people with fliers to tell them
“ how Kashmir's rich culture can be
preserved”. They made people to
pledge “I pledge to encourage
Kashmiri kids to speak Kashmiri and
help them to know more about
Kashmiri Heritage ”. “The response
was encouraging as this was
something new for them ”, said one
of the volunteers who split in groups
and toured different localities in
Srinagar.
The summit initially started with 700
boys and girls showing keen interest
in participating in lively discussions
on culture, rights and
entrepreneurship. A panel of experts
engaged with them to answer their
queries. The participants included
even those who actively were
involved in stone pelting last year.
“ We have political grievances but
these are important issues for our
society and we cannot brush them
aside, ” said Mudasir, an under
graduate student.
First of its kind in recent years, the
summit attracted more attention for
the fact that Mercy Corps, an
International NGO, raised the slogan
“ you are free to express yourself”.
“Actually, the freedom of expression
is choked here and that is the real
cause for unrest, ” said another
youth.
Mercy Corps’s Srinagar head Usman
Ahmad told The Hindu that the
objective of the summit was to help
the youth get a platform to take over
leadership and responsibility. “The
difference this event made was that
it was led by the youth, ” he said,
adding that they were exposed to
traditional means of cultural
expression.
Those who took part were
overwhelmed with the new
experience. "For the first time, we
have got a chance to get express our
ideas collectively, ” said Sehar Nazir,
who just finished her graduation in
business administration from
Nawakadal College. “For me it was
new and learning experience”, she
added.
Mohammad Haziq an MBA from
Kashmir University said, “it was a
great initiative that gives us
freedom of expression youth get
voice to speak ”. Encouraged with the
response, Mercy Corps now plans to
take the initiative to district level.
With everyone keeping fingers
crossed over “what will happen in
coming summer” this summit
comes as a silver lining for a
peaceful summer.

Passions rise in Kashmir ahead ofMohali clash

Srinagar, March 27 (IANS) As
archrivals India and Pakistan gear
for a face-off in the cricket World Cup
semi-finals in Mohali Wednesday,
passions are running high among
the ardent cricket lovers of Kashmir
Valley, where both teams enjoy a
large fan following. Matches
between India and Pakistan have
the power to evoke great passions.
An old-timer vividly remembers an
incident during a Test match in
Delhi, way back in the 1950s, when
radio was the only means of running
commentaries on sports events.
'A meat seller in Kokerbazar,
adjacent to Lal Chowk, sliced his
transistor into two with a butcher's
knife after the commentator
announced Pakistan's captain Hanif
Mohammad had been bowled,'
recalled Abdul Rehman Sheikh, 89.
Pakistan cricket players have a large
following - cutting across all ages -
in the old areas of Srinagar city.
'Some years back, an elderly woman
suffered a fatal heart attack in the
old city after a Pakistan star batsman
was out for a duck,' a police officer
said.
It is not only the Pakistan cricketers
who evoke strong feelings among
the sports lovers in the Valley.
Indian players especially Sachin
Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and
captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have
ardent fans among the youth here.
'Sachin is not only a cricket player,
he is a phenomenon perhaps never
to be equalled by others,' said
Danish, 18, a student.
Owais, 21, is a great fan of Sehwag
and Dhoni.
'To maintain your cool while you
stand behind the stumps and also
captain the team is not an easy job.
Dhoni has been doing it like a rock.
Sehwag has been the sultan of
Multan where he scored a double
ton.'
'The clash between India and
Pakistan is the most interesting
sports event in my life although I
have more favourites in the Indian
team,' Owais told IANS.
Streets usually get deserted in
Srinagar during India-Pakistan
sports clashes with government
offices, business establishments and
educational institutions largely
empty.
The Mohali match is no exception,
with people looking forward to it.
'The Mohali match is the mother of
all matches as both India and
Pakistan would be fighting each
other to get into the finals. Perhaps,
the clash between India and
Pakistan is the only sports event
when not only the players, but also
the spectators and sport lovers give
their best to the match,' said
Muhammad Ashraf, 59, a former
cricketer and Ranji trophy selector
here.
He contended any team which
scores above 275 runs would be the
winner.
'Because of being a very strong
team and the fact that they would be
playing before a home crowd, I
think the Indian players would be
under higher tension than their
rivals,' Ashraf said.
B.L. Saraf, 54, another cricket lover
said although India has never won
any of the previous two Mohali
clashes with Pakistan, yet he is
confident that they would give their
100 percent to create history this
time.
Meanwhile, the high passions could
create some problems for security
personnel.
'Emotions always run high in the old
city areas during India-Pakistan
sports clashes. Then there is the
problem of firecrackers among those
who follow any Pakistan sports
victory. An explosive noise is usually
indicative of a grenade blast or a
landmine explosion in the city as
has been our experience during the
last 20 years of violence here.
'Such events sometimes startle the
security men deployed on ground,' a
senior police officer, who did not
want to be named, told IANS.
Some police officers, especially in
old city areas, have been requesting
people not to create commotion on
the streets during or after the Mohali
match on Wednesday.
However, some people say the
India-Pakistan matches no longer
create the same tension.
'Despite what many believe, there is
a lot of difference between the past
and the present. Because of access to
satellite television, tempers have
cooled down to a greater extent,'
said Muzaffar Ahmad, a professor at
a local college here.
'Most locals, especially the youth,
fully understand that a game is a
game and if the Indian prime
minister can invite the Pakistan
president and the prime minister to
Mohali, why should the locals ignite
passions.
'Further, the tensions in Kashmir are
directly dependant on the straining
of relations between India and
Pakistan. If the two South Asia
neighbours finally make peace
between themselves, the ultimate
beneficiaries would be us,' he
added.
And yet, a certain nervousness is
palpable in the Valley. Who will win?
Who will play better? These
questions definitely cease to remain
just academic in Kashmir when it
comes to an India-Pakistan clash.

proof that islam is truth.....

asalamu alikum waramatulihe wabarkataho ........to all muslim uhmmmah.

The Proof That Islam Is The Truth

the Qur'an, features of morality are
the same for men and women
The superior morality of Muslim
women differ than that of the
common females in the societies
where Qur ’anic morality is not
practiced. This is because women -
who live in the societies where
Qur ’anic morality is not practiced-
share a common character that is
instructed to them by the society and
that passes on from one generation to
the other. In that kind of societies,
there are different characteristic
features determined for men and
women.
However, in the Holy Qur’an, Allah
does not announce two different
characters as men and women;
instead, He calls everyone to follow “a
single Muslim character”. According to
Qur’anic morality, men and women
have the same responsibilities. In this
character, women are responsible for
all the characteristic features that men
are obliged to perform. Each person
doing good deeds will be granted
with Allah ’s blessing and His will; no
matter what their sexuality is. In a
Qur ’anic verse, Allah announces the
common Islamic morality both
Muslim women and Muslim men are
obliged to live:
Men and women who are Muslims,
men and women who are believers,
men and women who are obedient,
men and women who are truthful,
men and women who are steadfast,
men and women who are humble,
men and women who give charity,
men and women who fast, men and
women who guard their chastity,
men and women who remember
Allah much: Allah has prepared
forgiveness for them and an immense
reward. (Surat al-Ahzab, 35)
As Our Lord announces, according to
Qur ’anic morality, the character of
women and men is not based on the
society ’s values or its traditions; yet it
is based on “the ideal morals of
Islam” announced in the Quran.
Muslim women and men practicing
this morality have a very strong and
sedate personality. Besides, the most
important of all, they live this
personality not for the sake of gaining
superiority upon people but for the
sake of attaining Allah’s will and love.
The reward for the believers who
truly practice this sense of morality is
announced in the Quran:
Anyone, male or female, who does
right actions and is a believer, will
enter the Garden. They will not be
wronged by so much as the tiniest
speck. (Surat An-Nisa, 124)

Facebook policy chief admits site needs to improve deletion toolsfor a minority of users

Facebook’s European director of policy has admitted that the site
needs to improve its tools to help those “exceptional” users who
need to delete data posted on the site forever.
Richard Allan, talking at a Westminster Media Forum debate
entitled, ‘Social media, online privacy and the ‘right to be
forgotten’', said that the majority of Facebook’s 500 million users
around the world were more concerned that their data, such as
photos and videos, remained on the service rather than being
deleted.
Allan, who was en route to Brussels to take part in continued
discussions on the European Union ’s plans to force social
networks to completely erase personal data, said that it would be
a mistake to amend data protection laws on the basis of a few
exceptional cases.
He said that “hard cases make bad law” and that the majority of
the people using Facebook want a guarantee that their data will
stay on the service, rather run the risk of any of it being deleted.
However, he did admit that the site still needed to “find
mechanisms to help in exceptional cases” where data needed to
be deleted.
Allan used young people who needed to delete their “youthful
expressions” from Facebook when they are older, in order to not
have embarrassing comments used against them in job
interviews or in any other walk of life – to illustrate what he
meant by exceptional cases.
He was at pains to stress that people can delete anything from
Facebook and it will clear from the site ’s environment. However,
in cases where information has been posted to ‘everyone’ online
and indexed by search engines, or private information has then
been posted publicly by someone else on the service, Facebook
was not responsible.
When asked why Facebook had indexed its members ‘public’
information in Google in the first place, Allan said that users had
wanted the service to do so in order to push other links they
didn ’t like about themselves down the search engine list.
Earlier this year Facebook was forced to disable a new feature
which allowed third party companies access to people’s personal
contact details, after negative user feedback and warnings from
security experts.
And last year Facebook was forced to simplify its privacy settings
in response to international criticism of the site’s increasingly
complex systems for users to decide what aspects of their data is
available online.
Speaking on the same panel as Facebook's Allan was Dr Chris
Pounder, director of Amberhawk - a legal information training
service. He argued that despite social network ’s privacy settings,
anyone posting anything online needed to accept that as soon as
they published the information, it was no longer private.
“As soon as you publish anything online, it is no longer personal…
this is a publishing issue and not a privacy one…We must
understand that we are not dealing with privacy [issues] we are
dealing with data protection. ”

Crisis of ModeratesThe art of defining oneself throughthe politics of Geelani

In the intense blame game that has
followed the failure of the previous
summer’s political unrest, Valley has
witnessed a conspicuous deepening
of division between moderate and
hardline separatists. The period has
spawned a discourse that blames
the Hurriyat (G) of messing up a
spontaneous popular groundswell
by trying to artificially extend it
through shutdown calendars. It also
accuses the faction of trying to
manipulate a natural outpouring of
public sentiment to suit its political
agenda. In fact, Hurriyat (G) is being
blamed for not only messing up
2010 uprising but all the three of
them since 2008 by obsessively
trying to project itself rather than
simply letting the overwhelming
sentiment on the ground play itself
out.
In recent weeks, this discourse has
graduated to a new and more daring
level. Hurriyat (G) chief Syed Ali Shah
Geelani is accused of responding to
only the human rights violations
perceived to have been committed
by the security forces. This is why
when the two sisters were recently
killed in Sopore by the unidentified
gunmen, Geelani suddenly became
the centre of attention. All that a
section of moderates seemed to be
interested in was how Geelani would
respond to the tragedy. A leader
who had spearheaded a Valleywide
ferment against the alleged rape and
murder of the two women in
Shopian was expected to rise up to
the occasion and lead a similar
campaign against the killings in
Sopore. And in the process, nobody
noticed that the state’s major
mainstream party PDP didn’t as
much as issue a customary
condemnation statement about the
incident.
Geelani, on the other hand, did slam
the sisters’ killing in the strongest
words possible and even sent a
Hurriyat delegation to Sopore to
offer condolences to the family. He
even called for a Sopore shutdown
against the killings which was
faithfully observed in the town. But
this was not deemed enough.
Geelani was expected to do more.
For example, to call for a Valleywide
hartal, in fact a series of them, and
also lead a protest campaign
demanding the identity of the
gunmen and their punishment like
he did in case of Shopian. This
discourse was still on when the army
killed a youth in Handwara while
sneaking across to another village in
the night to meet his beloved. Army
said the youth was killed by mistake
in the course of an ambush laid out
for the militants. But this in no way
justified the killing of an innocent
youth and the torture marks on his
body. The youth’s killing, however,
seemed to bring on par the excesses
by the security forces and the
unidentified gunmen and in the
process – albeit cynically – absolving
the both of their sins.
However, what was curious, was the
way many moderates looked to
Geelani for the response and tried to
turn it into a test of sorts for his
brand of politics. It was said that he
went whole hog over Shopian and
now let him go the distance on
Sopore. He shut Valley down for five
months last year over daily killings
of innocent youth, now he should
also announce a series of them over
Sopore. And both Geelani’s refusal to
measure up to these expectations or
even meeting them halfway is held
against him.
The objective here is not to defend
Geelani against these accusations.
Some of these might actually be
echoing the shades of public
sentiment in Kashmir. But it is to
reveal the lingering and now
growing tendency among some
moderates to scapegoat Geelani for
the general failure of the three
consecutive separatist uprisings
since 2008 and get away with it.
The point is how could they absolve
themselves by directing criticism at
Geelani. And the pertinent and much
larger question: why Geelani despite
all his blunders continues to be a
leader with mass following and
enjoy political credibility while the
moderates despite all their unilateral
claims to moral high ground and
possession of the knowledge of the
best possible strategy miserably
struggle to establish their political
bonafides. What is it that makes
Geelani important, gets him mass
support and also monopolize
separatist politics. And what is it that
denies the carping moderates the
confidence of the people.
Or to put it more bluntly if Geelani
baulked at issuing a protest
programme over Sopore, what
stopped the moderates from giving
one themselves. Or leave Sopore
alone - it was anyway a tough call –
why they couldn’t make an issue out
of the youth’s killing in Handwara. Or
if they thought Geelani was hijacking
the 2010 unrest what stopped them
from stepping in and nudge it back
in the right direction. And not being
able to do so reveals a deep crisis
among the moderates: a continuing
inability to establish their credibility
and at the same a degree of
diffidence to prosecute a political
campaign or take a moral stand.
Instead, they have tried to play on
the slip-ups of Geelani. Some of them
completely define themselves
through Geelani’s politics. What we
have as a result is a separatist
narrative that is uni-dimensional
and entirely Geelani-driven.
Moderates are not only not part of
the political discourse but have also
lost the capacity to drive an agenda.
This is why, next time they think
Geelani messed up an agitation, they
have no one but themselves to
blame.

"We hope in Allah most high, to
whom be praise, who leads the hearts
of Muslims to calm what torments
them and ruins their
prosperity."Where is the sense of
honor of Muslims? The pride of
Believers? The Zeal of the Faithful?"We
shall never cease to be amazed at
how the disbelievers for their part
have shown trusts, and it is the
Muslims who have been lacking in
zeal. Not one of them has responded
to the call. Not one intervenes to
straighten what is distorted; but
observe how far the Franks have gone
what unity they have achieved. What
aims they pursue. What help they
have given. What sums of money they
have borrowed and spent. What
wealth they have collected and
distributed and divided amongst
them. There is not a King left in their
lands or islands, not a lord or a rich
man who has not competed with his
neighbors to produce more support
and rival his peers in strenuous
military efforts. In defense of their
religion they consider it a small thing
to spend life and soul; and they have
kept their infidel brothers supplied
with arms and champions of war; and
all they have done and all their
generosity has been purely out of zeal
for him they worship in jealous
defense of their faith."The Muslims on
the other hand are weak and
demoralized; they have become
negligent and lazy, the victims of
unproductive stupefaction and
completely lacking in enthusiasm. If ,
Allah forbid, Islam should draw rein,
obscure her splendor, blunt her
sword, there would be no one, east or
west, far or near who would blaze the
zeal for Allah's religion, or choose to
come to the aid of truth against

laziness, to summon from far and
near all those men who have blood in

speaks about himself and the small
party of believers who began with
him and then became a large party);
but we are confident, thanks to Allah-

WE WANT PEACE NOT PEICES OF KASHMIR......

Govt dumps PDP resolution on
summer unrest probe
LC Rejects Motion Amid Chaos,
Pandemonium

ABID RASHID SHAH.

Jammu, Mar 16: The state
government Wednesday grounded a
resolution by the opposition PDP,
seeking an enquiry commission
headed by a sitting Supreme Court
judge to probe into last year’s
summer unrest in the Valley.
Amid noisy scenes in the Legislative
Council, PDP member Murtaza
Ahmed Khan moved a private
member’s resolution in the Upper
House for a commission of inquiry
headed by a sitting judge of
Supreme Court to be constituted to
probe the unrest in which around
115 civilians were killed, last year.
Blaming the state government for
fuelling alienation in the Valley due
to killings, Khan said that it has failed
to bring to book the culprits involved
in the killings despite ordering
probes and setting up commissions.
Khan, while moving the resolution,
said that 115 innocent civilian,
youth, and even teenagers were
killed by the security forces and
police for which, an independent
probe is must.
“They were not the armed men, not
even trained militants but they were
the innocent citizens, mostly youth,
of Jammu and Kashmir,” Khan said
and questioned the government that
what was their fault?
He batted for setting up of the
commission which will “freely and
fairly probe and order punishment
to those responsible as it would not
be influenced by the government.”
Rejecting the motion, Minister for
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali
Muhammad Sagar opposed the
resolution, saying that the
government headed by Chief
Minister Omar Abdullah has always
reiterated its “zero tolerance to any
human rights violations or custodial
killings in the state.”
He said that government had
initiated probes and set up a three-
member commission of inquiry to
look into the killings during the
summer unrest and action has been
taken on such reports till now.
“He (Murtaza) has used word ‘bad
governance’ and accused Omar led
government for the turmoil in
Kashmir which is not true,” the
minister said.
Sagar said; “Syed Ali Shah Geelani
and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in
response to a question by national
and international media have clearly
said that they have nothing to do
with Omar government. They were
against India. They had given a ‘Quit
India’ call and the slogan was ‘Go
India Go Back,” Sagar said while
giving clean chit to the coalition.
He said during the PDP rule nearly
121 enquires were initiated but no
report was submitted after the
investigation and it indicates how
that government was serious about
the incidents.
While the opposition charged the NC
led government of ‘unleashing’ rein
of fear in the valley by resorting to
frequent arrests of youth, the
Government blamed the PDP
leadership of imposing AFSPA in the
state during early nineties.
After over ten minutes of debate,
with a voice vote, the resolution fell
in the council as Khan pressed for its
passage in the House.
SPEAKER, PDP MLA SPAR
Meanwhile, the Legislative Assembly
Wednesday witnessed heated
exchange of words between the
Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone and
PDP legislator Syed Bashir.
The Speaker also reprimanded the
legislator for showing ‘disrespect’ to
the Chair and asked him to “behave
like a legislator.”
The trouble erupted after the PDP
MLA Syed Bashir who stood up from
his seat to raise an issue. Bashir
accused the Speaker of ignoring him.
“Aap Tou Hamari Sunte Hi Nahi Hain
Speaker Sahab (You don’t listen to
us). It is great injustice with the
Opposition members,” Bashir
remarked.
His remarks provoked the Speaker
who retorted; “You should learn the
manners to behave like a legislator
in the House. You must respect the
Chair.”
It led to heated exchange of words
with the Speaker directing the
legislator to take his seat.
Later, the PDP MLA clarified that he
had not shown any disrespect to the
Chair.
“Speaker Sahab Aap Ne Mujhe Zaleel
Kar Diya (Speaker sir, you have
insulted me). I had not shown any
disrespect to the Chair. I wanted to
raise a simple issue,” he maintained.
The Speaker directed that all words
which he made should be expunged
from the record.

BAKSHI GETS PUBLIC SAFETY ACT USING FACEBOOK.....

Srinagar, Mar 16: The state
Government has booked tech-savvy
separatist leader Shakeel Bakshi
under the Public Safety Act.
Bakshi, one of the
founders of Islamic Students League,
was arrested from his Batamaloo
residence last month.
The family of Bakshi
castigated authorities for detaining
him under PSA “without any valid
ground.”
“Was silence his crime?
He was sitting at home only. Holding
him on baseless and concocted
charges is sheer high handedness on
part of the government,” his father,
Ghulam Muhammad Bakshi told
Greater Kashmir.
“After detaining him last
month, he was kept under illegal
confinement for five days between
March 10 to March 14 as his remand
had ended,” he further said.
Bakshi, who was first
arrested in 1984 for participating in
student politics in Kashmir
University, was quite active on social
networking website- Facebook-
before his arrest. Since 1984, he was
arrested 14 times and spent more
than 11 years in jails within and
outside the state.
During heydays of armed
struggle in ’90s, he coined the
famous slogan “Anaj Ugaw, Azadi
Paw (cultivate foodgrains, get
freedom).”
He lost his brother Shariq
Ahmed in 1998 and his another
brother Showkat Bakshi spent 14
years in different jails.
A police official, wishing
anonymity, said that Bakshi has
been booked under PSA for
‘instigating youth.’ “The PSA warrant
pending against him was executed
Tuesday and he has been shifted to
Jammu,” he said.
