MIRACLE OF QURAN : DEATH OF THESTARS AND THE SUN

- When the stars are put out.
77-The Emissaries, 8 [077 SURE AL-
MURSALAT, 8V]
At the time of the descent of the
Quran, people believed that the light
of the stars would last forever. This
at a time when the inner structure of
the stars was a mystery and the fact
that the energy of the stars would,
one day, be exhausted was not
known. The Quran’s prediction about
the end of the stars is a miraculous
statement.
2- When the planets are scattered.
82-The Shattering, 2 [082 SURE AL-
INFITAAR, 2V]
While the verses speak of the putting
out of stars, the planets, not light
sources, will scatter. The Arabic word
for a star is “najm,” while “kavkab” is
a planet. Given the fact that the
planets are dependent on a central
star, when this star is no more, the
planets will necessarily scatter.
(There have been translators who
translated both words as stars
without heeding the difference
between them.) Planets are not light
sources, therefore their extinction is
out of question. The Quran displays
its miraculous attribute in all its
statements.
1- When the sun is rolled.
81-The Rolling, 1 [081 SURE AT-
TAKVEER, 1V]
The Arabic word “takwir” refers to
the wrapping of the turban around
the head in a spiral form; it also
means the rolling or winding of a
thing into a ball or round mass, or
around something. The scene
describes how the end of the sun will
come. Like all the other stars, our sun
also consumes hydrogen atoms by
transforming them into helium
atoms and releasing energy in the
form of radiation, heat and light. The
transformation of hydrogen into
helium stops with the exhaustion of
the hydrogen. Even without the
effect of other potential causes, the
sun will have to come to an end for
this reason. Before their extinction,
the stars, according to their sizes,
pass through such phases as red
giant, white dwarf or black hole. In
view of its magnitude, our sun must
turn first into a red giant before
dying.
The sun has been a subject of
worship in the history of mankind.
People who did not believe in the
end of the universe considered the
sun itself to be an immortal divinity
and thought that the universe and
the earth would last eternally; there
have been those who believed in the
transmigration of souls
everlastingly. Having eventually
been convinced by scientific
discoveries that the world was
doomed to die one day, the minds
that idolized the sun and the belief in
the eternal reincarnation cycle lost
their support. The belief in the
Hereafter described in the Quran and
the end of the universe are
interconnected as the stages of a
system. Taking cognizance of the fact
that the end of the universe will
eventually come has reinforced the
belief in the Hereafter.
7- And verily the Hour is coming, no
doubt about it, and that God will
resurrect those who are dead.
22-The Pilgrimage, 7 [022 SURE AL-
HAJJ, 7V]
The description of the end of the
universe in the Quran relating to the
end of the sun and of the world is
given in striking colors. What the
people at the Prophet’s time knew
about astronomy could not possibly
have permitted them to describe
such occurrences. Muslims who lived
at the time of the revelation of the
Quran believed in all these, not
because of scientific deductions but
because they had faith in the fact
that it was easy for God, the Creator
of the heavens and the earth, to
destroy them. All the statements of
the Quran about the disappearance
of the stars, the sun and the earth
are corroborated today by scientific
discoveries.
EARTHQUAKES WITH BOILING SEAS
4- When the earth will be shaken
up.
56-The Inevitable, 4 [056 SURE AL-
WAQIYA, 4V]
When the Hour comes, the entire
earth will be shaken by a terrible
earthquake. The Quran says that the
tremor will cause mountains to be
pulverized, and men will run to and
fro in panic. As for the sea, we have
the following indications:
6- When the seas boil.
81-The Rolling, 6 [081 SURE AT-
TAKVEER, V 6]
3- When the seas are suffered to
burst forth.
82-The Shattering, 3 [082 SURE AL-
INFITAAR, V 3]
An earthquake will pulverize
mountains, hot lava will burst forth
from many corners of the earth.
Volcanoes will erupt and lava will
rise from the sea. It is unlikely that
the depiction of the end of the world
was an exaggeration of natural
disasters that Muhammad
experienced in his lifetime. The area
where Muhammad lived was not on
a major earthquake fault-line, and
those who spent most of their lives
in the middle of desert, most likely,
never witnessed the eruption of a
volcano in mid-ocean!
5- When the wild beasts are
summoned.
81-The Rolling, 5 [081 SURE AT-
TAKVEER, V 5]
The Quran draws our attention to
the herding together of animals. We
know today that animals react to a
tremor even before we, as human
beings, realize it. For instance, in the
zoo in Seattle Woodland, the odd
movements of elephants and the
restlessness of gorillas in their cages
were observed before the
earthquake was felt by human
beings. This is a domain in which
further research studies are being
conducted. In view of this statement
of the Quran, we think that this
research should be intensified.
3- And when the earth is flattened
out.
4- And when it throws out
whatever it contains and is empty.
84-The Splitting, 3-4 [084 SURE AL-
INSHAQAQ, V 3, V4]
The contents of the earth, the
magma, the molten rock, will rise to
the surface as lava, as described in
the verses quoted.
The Quran would like us to turn our
attention to the most serious event
of earth history to come. Advanced
science has demonstrated that the
end of the world and the universe is
inevitable. No one can assert any
longer that the stars and the sun will
shine forever, and that the universe
and the earth will abide to eternity.
18- Are they waiting until the Hour
comes to them suddenly? Its signs
have already appeared. How can
they benefit then when it has come
upon them?
47-Muhammad, 18 [047 SURE
MUHAMMED,V18]

Rapper MC Kash creates storm as “ One Young Kashmir” summit ends

Kashmir’s lone rapper Roushan Illahi
aka MC Kash on Sunday created
waves with his Kashmir centric
performance which marked the
conclusion of first even youth
summit in Valley. The summit
named as “One Young Kashmir”
drew hundreds of youth from all
parts of Kashmir to chalk out their
strategy for a brighter future and
take leadership to show a pragmatic
path. They pledged to work for
preservation of culture, awareness of
rights and making economy the
focus of their future initiatives.
Amidst fear and violence over 2000
young boys and girls from all over
Kashmir turned up for the summit
opened up last Sunday. Today they
turned hysteric as the Rapper MC
Kash tapped on the podium with
“Kiss the soil and vow, to make our
Kashmir better” with his husky
voice. All the participants gave a
standing ovation to him as he
touched the core of sufferings in
present day Kashmir. He ended with
a Kashmir proverb “Akh Te Akh Gaye
Kah” which means one plus one is
eleven.
On Saturday, enthusiastic Kashmiri
boys and girls reached out to nearly
14,000 people with fliers to tell them
“ how Kashmir's rich culture can be
preserved”. They made people to
pledge “I pledge to encourage
Kashmiri kids to speak Kashmiri and
help them to know more about
Kashmiri Heritage ”. “The response
was encouraging as this was
something new for them ”, said one
of the volunteers who split in groups
and toured different localities in
Srinagar.
The summit initially started with 700
boys and girls showing keen interest
in participating in lively discussions
on culture, rights and
entrepreneurship. A panel of experts
engaged with them to answer their
queries. The participants included
even those who actively were
involved in stone pelting last year.
“ We have political grievances but
these are important issues for our
society and we cannot brush them
aside, ” said Mudasir, an under
graduate student.
First of its kind in recent years, the
summit attracted more attention for
the fact that Mercy Corps, an
International NGO, raised the slogan
“ you are free to express yourself”.
“Actually, the freedom of expression
is choked here and that is the real
cause for unrest, ” said another
youth.
Mercy Corps’s Srinagar head Usman
Ahmad told The Hindu that the
objective of the summit was to help
the youth get a platform to take over
leadership and responsibility. “The
difference this event made was that
it was led by the youth, ” he said,
adding that they were exposed to
traditional means of cultural
expression.
Those who took part were
overwhelmed with the new
experience. "For the first time, we
have got a chance to get express our
ideas collectively, ” said Sehar Nazir,
who just finished her graduation in
business administration from
Nawakadal College. “For me it was
new and learning experience”, she
added.
Mohammad Haziq an MBA from
Kashmir University said, “it was a
great initiative that gives us
freedom of expression youth get
voice to speak ”. Encouraged with the
response, Mercy Corps now plans to
take the initiative to district level.
With everyone keeping fingers
crossed over “what will happen in
coming summer” this summit
comes as a silver lining for a
peaceful summer.

Passions rise in Kashmir ahead ofMohali clash

Srinagar, March 27 (IANS) As
archrivals India and Pakistan gear
for a face-off in the cricket World Cup
semi-finals in Mohali Wednesday,
passions are running high among
the ardent cricket lovers of Kashmir
Valley, where both teams enjoy a
large fan following. Matches
between India and Pakistan have
the power to evoke great passions.
An old-timer vividly remembers an
incident during a Test match in
Delhi, way back in the 1950s, when
radio was the only means of running
commentaries on sports events.
'A meat seller in Kokerbazar,
adjacent to Lal Chowk, sliced his
transistor into two with a butcher's
knife after the commentator
announced Pakistan's captain Hanif
Mohammad had been bowled,'
recalled Abdul Rehman Sheikh, 89.
Pakistan cricket players have a large
following - cutting across all ages -
in the old areas of Srinagar city.
'Some years back, an elderly woman
suffered a fatal heart attack in the
old city after a Pakistan star batsman
was out for a duck,' a police officer
said.
It is not only the Pakistan cricketers
who evoke strong feelings among
the sports lovers in the Valley.
Indian players especially Sachin
Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and
captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have
ardent fans among the youth here.
'Sachin is not only a cricket player,
he is a phenomenon perhaps never
to be equalled by others,' said
Danish, 18, a student.
Owais, 21, is a great fan of Sehwag
and Dhoni.
'To maintain your cool while you
stand behind the stumps and also
captain the team is not an easy job.
Dhoni has been doing it like a rock.
Sehwag has been the sultan of
Multan where he scored a double
ton.'
'The clash between India and
Pakistan is the most interesting
sports event in my life although I
have more favourites in the Indian
team,' Owais told IANS.
Streets usually get deserted in
Srinagar during India-Pakistan
sports clashes with government
offices, business establishments and
educational institutions largely
empty.
The Mohali match is no exception,
with people looking forward to it.
'The Mohali match is the mother of
all matches as both India and
Pakistan would be fighting each
other to get into the finals. Perhaps,
the clash between India and
Pakistan is the only sports event
when not only the players, but also
the spectators and sport lovers give
their best to the match,' said
Muhammad Ashraf, 59, a former
cricketer and Ranji trophy selector
here.
He contended any team which
scores above 275 runs would be the
winner.
'Because of being a very strong
team and the fact that they would be
playing before a home crowd, I
think the Indian players would be
under higher tension than their
rivals,' Ashraf said.
B.L. Saraf, 54, another cricket lover
said although India has never won
any of the previous two Mohali
clashes with Pakistan, yet he is
confident that they would give their
100 percent to create history this
time.
Meanwhile, the high passions could
create some problems for security
personnel.
'Emotions always run high in the old
city areas during India-Pakistan
sports clashes. Then there is the
problem of firecrackers among those
who follow any Pakistan sports
victory. An explosive noise is usually
indicative of a grenade blast or a
landmine explosion in the city as
has been our experience during the
last 20 years of violence here.
'Such events sometimes startle the
security men deployed on ground,' a
senior police officer, who did not
want to be named, told IANS.
Some police officers, especially in
old city areas, have been requesting
people not to create commotion on
the streets during or after the Mohali
match on Wednesday.
However, some people say the
India-Pakistan matches no longer
create the same tension.
'Despite what many believe, there is
a lot of difference between the past
and the present. Because of access to
satellite television, tempers have
cooled down to a greater extent,'
said Muzaffar Ahmad, a professor at
a local college here.
'Most locals, especially the youth,
fully understand that a game is a
game and if the Indian prime
minister can invite the Pakistan
president and the prime minister to
Mohali, why should the locals ignite
passions.
'Further, the tensions in Kashmir are
directly dependant on the straining
of relations between India and
Pakistan. If the two South Asia
neighbours finally make peace
between themselves, the ultimate
beneficiaries would be us,' he
added.
And yet, a certain nervousness is
palpable in the Valley. Who will win?
Who will play better? These
questions definitely cease to remain
just academic in Kashmir when it
comes to an India-Pakistan clash.

proof that islam is truth.....

asalamu alikum waramatulihe wabarkataho ........to all muslim uhmmmah.

The Proof That Islam Is The Truth

the Qur'an, features of morality are
the same for men and women
The superior morality of Muslim
women differ than that of the
common females in the societies
where Qur ’anic morality is not
practiced. This is because women -
who live in the societies where
Qur ’anic morality is not practiced-
share a common character that is
instructed to them by the society and
that passes on from one generation to
the other. In that kind of societies,
there are different characteristic
features determined for men and
women.
However, in the Holy Qur’an, Allah
does not announce two different
characters as men and women;
instead, He calls everyone to follow “a
single Muslim character”. According to
Qur’anic morality, men and women
have the same responsibilities. In this
character, women are responsible for
all the characteristic features that men
are obliged to perform. Each person
doing good deeds will be granted
with Allah ’s blessing and His will; no
matter what their sexuality is. In a
Qur ’anic verse, Allah announces the
common Islamic morality both
Muslim women and Muslim men are
obliged to live:
Men and women who are Muslims,
men and women who are believers,
men and women who are obedient,
men and women who are truthful,
men and women who are steadfast,
men and women who are humble,
men and women who give charity,
men and women who fast, men and
women who guard their chastity,
men and women who remember
Allah much: Allah has prepared
forgiveness for them and an immense
reward. (Surat al-Ahzab, 35)
As Our Lord announces, according to
Qur ’anic morality, the character of
women and men is not based on the
society ’s values or its traditions; yet it
is based on “the ideal morals of
Islam” announced in the Quran.
Muslim women and men practicing
this morality have a very strong and
sedate personality. Besides, the most
important of all, they live this
personality not for the sake of gaining
superiority upon people but for the
sake of attaining Allah’s will and love.
The reward for the believers who
truly practice this sense of morality is
announced in the Quran:
Anyone, male or female, who does
right actions and is a believer, will
enter the Garden. They will not be
wronged by so much as the tiniest
speck. (Surat An-Nisa, 124)

Facebook policy chief admits site needs to improve deletion toolsfor a minority of users

Facebook’s European director of policy has admitted that the site
needs to improve its tools to help those “exceptional” users who
need to delete data posted on the site forever.
Richard Allan, talking at a Westminster Media Forum debate
entitled, ‘Social media, online privacy and the ‘right to be
forgotten’', said that the majority of Facebook’s 500 million users
around the world were more concerned that their data, such as
photos and videos, remained on the service rather than being
deleted.
Allan, who was en route to Brussels to take part in continued
discussions on the European Union ’s plans to force social
networks to completely erase personal data, said that it would be
a mistake to amend data protection laws on the basis of a few
exceptional cases.
He said that “hard cases make bad law” and that the majority of
the people using Facebook want a guarantee that their data will
stay on the service, rather run the risk of any of it being deleted.
However, he did admit that the site still needed to “find
mechanisms to help in exceptional cases” where data needed to
be deleted.
Allan used young people who needed to delete their “youthful
expressions” from Facebook when they are older, in order to not
have embarrassing comments used against them in job
interviews or in any other walk of life – to illustrate what he
meant by exceptional cases.
He was at pains to stress that people can delete anything from
Facebook and it will clear from the site ’s environment. However,
in cases where information has been posted to ‘everyone’ online
and indexed by search engines, or private information has then
been posted publicly by someone else on the service, Facebook
was not responsible.
When asked why Facebook had indexed its members ‘public’
information in Google in the first place, Allan said that users had
wanted the service to do so in order to push other links they
didn ’t like about themselves down the search engine list.
Earlier this year Facebook was forced to disable a new feature
which allowed third party companies access to people’s personal
contact details, after negative user feedback and warnings from
security experts.
And last year Facebook was forced to simplify its privacy settings
in response to international criticism of the site’s increasingly
complex systems for users to decide what aspects of their data is
available online.
Speaking on the same panel as Facebook's Allan was Dr Chris
Pounder, director of Amberhawk - a legal information training
service. He argued that despite social network ’s privacy settings,
anyone posting anything online needed to accept that as soon as
they published the information, it was no longer private.
“As soon as you publish anything online, it is no longer personal…
this is a publishing issue and not a privacy one…We must
understand that we are not dealing with privacy [issues] we are
dealing with data protection. ”

Crisis of ModeratesThe art of defining oneself throughthe politics of Geelani

In the intense blame game that has
followed the failure of the previous
summer’s political unrest, Valley has
witnessed a conspicuous deepening
of division between moderate and
hardline separatists. The period has
spawned a discourse that blames
the Hurriyat (G) of messing up a
spontaneous popular groundswell
by trying to artificially extend it
through shutdown calendars. It also
accuses the faction of trying to
manipulate a natural outpouring of
public sentiment to suit its political
agenda. In fact, Hurriyat (G) is being
blamed for not only messing up
2010 uprising but all the three of
them since 2008 by obsessively
trying to project itself rather than
simply letting the overwhelming
sentiment on the ground play itself
out.
In recent weeks, this discourse has
graduated to a new and more daring
level. Hurriyat (G) chief Syed Ali Shah
Geelani is accused of responding to
only the human rights violations
perceived to have been committed
by the security forces. This is why
when the two sisters were recently
killed in Sopore by the unidentified
gunmen, Geelani suddenly became
the centre of attention. All that a
section of moderates seemed to be
interested in was how Geelani would
respond to the tragedy. A leader
who had spearheaded a Valleywide
ferment against the alleged rape and
murder of the two women in
Shopian was expected to rise up to
the occasion and lead a similar
campaign against the killings in
Sopore. And in the process, nobody
noticed that the state’s major
mainstream party PDP didn’t as
much as issue a customary
condemnation statement about the
incident.
Geelani, on the other hand, did slam
the sisters’ killing in the strongest
words possible and even sent a
Hurriyat delegation to Sopore to
offer condolences to the family. He
even called for a Sopore shutdown
against the killings which was
faithfully observed in the town. But
this was not deemed enough.
Geelani was expected to do more.
For example, to call for a Valleywide
hartal, in fact a series of them, and
also lead a protest campaign
demanding the identity of the
gunmen and their punishment like
he did in case of Shopian. This
discourse was still on when the army
killed a youth in Handwara while
sneaking across to another village in
the night to meet his beloved. Army
said the youth was killed by mistake
in the course of an ambush laid out
for the militants. But this in no way
justified the killing of an innocent
youth and the torture marks on his
body. The youth’s killing, however,
seemed to bring on par the excesses
by the security forces and the
unidentified gunmen and in the
process – albeit cynically – absolving
the both of their sins.
However, what was curious, was the
way many moderates looked to
Geelani for the response and tried to
turn it into a test of sorts for his
brand of politics. It was said that he
went whole hog over Shopian and
now let him go the distance on
Sopore. He shut Valley down for five
months last year over daily killings
of innocent youth, now he should
also announce a series of them over
Sopore. And both Geelani’s refusal to
measure up to these expectations or
even meeting them halfway is held
against him.
The objective here is not to defend
Geelani against these accusations.
Some of these might actually be
echoing the shades of public
sentiment in Kashmir. But it is to
reveal the lingering and now
growing tendency among some
moderates to scapegoat Geelani for
the general failure of the three
consecutive separatist uprisings
since 2008 and get away with it.
The point is how could they absolve
themselves by directing criticism at
Geelani. And the pertinent and much
larger question: why Geelani despite
all his blunders continues to be a
leader with mass following and
enjoy political credibility while the
moderates despite all their unilateral
claims to moral high ground and
possession of the knowledge of the
best possible strategy miserably
struggle to establish their political
bonafides. What is it that makes
Geelani important, gets him mass
support and also monopolize
separatist politics. And what is it that
denies the carping moderates the
confidence of the people.
Or to put it more bluntly if Geelani
baulked at issuing a protest
programme over Sopore, what
stopped the moderates from giving
one themselves. Or leave Sopore
alone - it was anyway a tough call –
why they couldn’t make an issue out
of the youth’s killing in Handwara. Or
if they thought Geelani was hijacking
the 2010 unrest what stopped them
from stepping in and nudge it back
in the right direction. And not being
able to do so reveals a deep crisis
among the moderates: a continuing
inability to establish their credibility
and at the same a degree of
diffidence to prosecute a political
campaign or take a moral stand.
Instead, they have tried to play on
the slip-ups of Geelani. Some of them
completely define themselves
through Geelani’s politics. What we
have as a result is a separatist
narrative that is uni-dimensional
and entirely Geelani-driven.
Moderates are not only not part of
the political discourse but have also
lost the capacity to drive an agenda.
This is why, next time they think
Geelani messed up an agitation, they
have no one but themselves to
blame.

"We hope in Allah most high, to
whom be praise, who leads the hearts
of Muslims to calm what torments
them and ruins their
prosperity."Where is the sense of
honor of Muslims? The pride of
Believers? The Zeal of the Faithful?"We
shall never cease to be amazed at
how the disbelievers for their part
have shown trusts, and it is the
Muslims who have been lacking in
zeal. Not one of them has responded
to the call. Not one intervenes to
straighten what is distorted; but
observe how far the Franks have gone
what unity they have achieved. What
aims they pursue. What help they
have given. What sums of money they
have borrowed and spent. What
wealth they have collected and
distributed and divided amongst
them. There is not a King left in their
lands or islands, not a lord or a rich
man who has not competed with his
neighbors to produce more support
and rival his peers in strenuous
military efforts. In defense of their
religion they consider it a small thing
to spend life and soul; and they have
kept their infidel brothers supplied
with arms and champions of war; and
all they have done and all their
generosity has been purely out of zeal
for him they worship in jealous
defense of their faith."The Muslims on
the other hand are weak and
demoralized; they have become
negligent and lazy, the victims of
unproductive stupefaction and
completely lacking in enthusiasm. If ,
Allah forbid, Islam should draw rein,
obscure her splendor, blunt her
sword, there would be no one, east or
west, far or near who would blaze the
zeal for Allah's religion, or choose to
come to the aid of truth against
error."This is the moment to cast off
laziness, to summon from far and
near all those men who have blood in
their veins; but we are confident (he
speaks about himself and the small
party of believers who began with
him and then became a large party);
but we are confident, thanks to Allah-

deepest devotion."Insha Allah, the
disbelievers shall perish and the
faithful have a sure deliverance."-

WE WANT PEACE NOT PEICES OF KASHMIR......

Govt dumps PDP resolution on
summer unrest probe
LC Rejects Motion Amid Chaos,
Pandemonium

ABID RASHID SHAH.

Jammu, Mar 16: The state
government Wednesday grounded a
resolution by the opposition PDP,
seeking an enquiry commission
headed by a sitting Supreme Court
judge to probe into last year’s
summer unrest in the Valley.
Amid noisy scenes in the Legislative
Council, PDP member Murtaza
Ahmed Khan moved a private
member’s resolution in the Upper
House for a commission of inquiry
headed by a sitting judge of
Supreme Court to be constituted to
probe the unrest in which around
115 civilians were killed, last year.
Blaming the state government for
fuelling alienation in the Valley due
to killings, Khan said that it has failed
to bring to book the culprits involved
in the killings despite ordering
probes and setting up commissions.
Khan, while moving the resolution,
said that 115 innocent civilian,
youth, and even teenagers were
killed by the security forces and
police for which, an independent
probe is must.
“They were not the armed men, not
even trained militants but they were
the innocent citizens, mostly youth,
of Jammu and Kashmir,” Khan said
and questioned the government that
what was their fault?
He batted for setting up of the
commission which will “freely and
fairly probe and order punishment
to those responsible as it would not
be influenced by the government.”
Rejecting the motion, Minister for
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali
Muhammad Sagar opposed the
resolution, saying that the
government headed by Chief
Minister Omar Abdullah has always
reiterated its “zero tolerance to any
human rights violations or custodial
killings in the state.”
He said that government had
initiated probes and set up a three-
member commission of inquiry to
look into the killings during the
summer unrest and action has been
taken on such reports till now.
“He (Murtaza) has used word ‘bad
governance’ and accused Omar led
government for the turmoil in
Kashmir which is not true,” the
minister said.
Sagar said; “Syed Ali Shah Geelani
and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in
response to a question by national
and international media have clearly
said that they have nothing to do
with Omar government. They were
against India. They had given a ‘Quit
India’ call and the slogan was ‘Go
India Go Back,” Sagar said while
giving clean chit to the coalition.
He said during the PDP rule nearly
121 enquires were initiated but no
report was submitted after the
investigation and it indicates how
that government was serious about
the incidents.
While the opposition charged the NC
led government of ‘unleashing’ rein
of fear in the valley by resorting to
frequent arrests of youth, the
Government blamed the PDP
leadership of imposing AFSPA in the
state during early nineties.
After over ten minutes of debate,
with a voice vote, the resolution fell
in the council as Khan pressed for its
passage in the House.
SPEAKER, PDP MLA SPAR
Meanwhile, the Legislative Assembly
Wednesday witnessed heated
exchange of words between the
Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone and
PDP legislator Syed Bashir.
The Speaker also reprimanded the
legislator for showing ‘disrespect’ to
the Chair and asked him to “behave
like a legislator.”
The trouble erupted after the PDP
MLA Syed Bashir who stood up from
his seat to raise an issue. Bashir
accused the Speaker of ignoring him.
“Aap Tou Hamari Sunte Hi Nahi Hain
Speaker Sahab (You don’t listen to
us). It is great injustice with the
Opposition members,” Bashir
remarked.
His remarks provoked the Speaker
who retorted; “You should learn the
manners to behave like a legislator
in the House. You must respect the
Chair.”
It led to heated exchange of words
with the Speaker directing the
legislator to take his seat.
Later, the PDP MLA clarified that he
had not shown any disrespect to the
Chair.
“Speaker Sahab Aap Ne Mujhe Zaleel
Kar Diya (Speaker sir, you have
insulted me). I had not shown any
disrespect to the Chair. I wanted to
raise a simple issue,” he maintained.
The Speaker directed that all words
which he made should be expunged
from the record.

BAKSHI GETS PUBLIC SAFETY ACT USING FACEBOOK.....

Srinagar, Mar 16: The state
Government has booked tech-savvy
separatist leader Shakeel Bakshi
under the Public Safety Act.
Bakshi, one of the
founders of Islamic Students League,
was arrested from his Batamaloo
residence last month.
The family of Bakshi
castigated authorities for detaining
him under PSA “without any valid
ground.”
“Was silence his crime?
He was sitting at home only. Holding
him on baseless and concocted
charges is sheer high handedness on
part of the government,” his father,
Ghulam Muhammad Bakshi told
Greater Kashmir.
“After detaining him last
month, he was kept under illegal
confinement for five days between
March 10 to March 14 as his remand
had ended,” he further said.
Bakshi, who was first
arrested in 1984 for participating in
student politics in Kashmir
University, was quite active on social
networking website- Facebook-
before his arrest. Since 1984, he was
arrested 14 times and spent more
than 11 years in jails within and
outside the state.
During heydays of armed
struggle in ’90s, he coined the
famous slogan “Anaj Ugaw, Azadi
Paw (cultivate foodgrains, get
freedom).”
He lost his brother Shariq
Ahmed in 1998 and his another
brother Showkat Bakshi spent 14
years in different jails.
A police official, wishing
anonymity, said that Bakshi has
been booked under PSA for
‘instigating youth.’ “The PSA warrant
pending against him was executed
Tuesday and he has been shifted to
Jammu,” he said.

10 important articles of kashmir by MAHARAJA'S .

The day when nation was sold
16th March 1846 – THE AMRITSAR
TREATY
AND SOLD SO CHEAPLY, DR.JAVID
IQBAL TAKES A LEAF FROM HISTORY
Gulab Singh assumed sovereign
rights, over Kashmir as enshrined in
Article 4 and 12 of Lahore treaty,
signed on 9th March. The treaty of
Amritsar, a shadowy deal
formalised what was agreed in
Lahore. Allama Iqbal says of the
deal:
Dahkan, Kisht, Joey Va Khayaban
Farukh’tand
Qaum-i- Farukh’tand Va Che Arza’n
Farukh’tand!
Peasant, the land, the stream, the
avenues sliced
A nation was sold and how cheap
was it priced?!
Text of the Treaty [translated from
original Persian text]
This treaty was culminated between
the Government of Company Bhadur
and Maharaja Gulab Singh, the
chieftain of Jammu, by Fredrik Kerry
Barnet Sahib Bhadur and Major
Lawrence Sahib Bhadur acting as
diplomatic emissaries/ legal
trustees of visionary, praiseworthy
Nawab, endowed with power and
titles-Rt. Honourable Sir Henry
Harding Sahib Bhadur-GBC, Governor
General, who is one of special
consultants of- full of piety and
goodness, supreme in status, Queen
of Queens, Her Majesty, the Queen of
England who has entrusted the
Government of Company Bhadur
[East India Company] with
administration and setting up all
affairs in India-big and small and
holding all the power to negotiate
this particular affair and Maharaja
Gulab Singh, present in person
[ASALATAN in Persian, a word, we
are familiar with in Muslim wedding
contracts]
Article one:-
The British Government hands over
the country of Kashmir and Hazara
and the entire mountainous region,
falling between rivers Ravi and
Sindh, falling towards Hazara, with
river Sindh on eastern and river Ravi
on western side including the
territory of Chamb, excluding Lahul,
transferred and presented to British
Government, by Lahore royal court,
as per article four of the treaty of 9th
March permanently, with total
sovereign rights to Maharaja Gulab
Singh’s male inheritors, in order of
succession.
Note: - Hazara, now forms a part of
NWFP in Pakistan, it was however
exchanged with Lahore Durbar, for
territories to the ‘East of Jhelum’
within a year of signing of ‘Amritsar
Treaty’, precisely on 25th May, 1847.
An English translation of this
agreement reads as:-
An agreement between Government
of Maharaja Dilip Singh Bhadur and
Government of Maharaja Gulab Singh
Bhadur, with approval of Diwan
Dina Nath and Roy Kishan Chand
trustees of Lahore court and Diwan
Jwala Sahay and Qazi Mukham-ud-
Din, lawyers of Maharaja Gulab Singh
was placed in front of the revered
Colonel-Sir Henry Montgomery
Lawrence Bhadur- Agent of Governor
General in Northern and Western
territories and Resident of Lahore,
presiding with the power vested in
him by approval of officials of the
two Maharajas, with regard to
Hazara and Kohtah to the west of
Jhelum belonging to Maharaja Gulab
Singh Bhadur and the territory to
the east of Jhelum located towards
Jammu belonging to Lahore court.
The agreement was conditioned on
their approval and acceptance of
Grand Captain of Abbot Abad, who
with all the talent in his command,
while keeping justice in view would
examine the documents concerning
Hazara and western Jhelum to
elucidate the subject and fix an
yearly amount, which ought to be
half of revenue after exemption, of
the territory to the east of Jhelum
towards Jammu. A firm line would
be drawn, which would ensure,
never ever to repeat the draw or
result in any misunderstanding,
starting from west of river Jhelum, in
the vicinity of Muzzafarabad and
sticking to the mountainous reaches
of Konhar waterway (Nallah in
Persian) keeping it as straight, as
possible, conditioned on the opinion
of the Governor General’s appointee
and held straight until river Sindh, so
that no doubt is left regarding a
complete division of territory
between two States. Following this
the two States should not seek to
alter and dispute the division and
exercise control over the territory
assigned. Should ever a dispute
arise, it would be placed in the court
of Agent of Governor General in
Northwest and Resident Lahore. A
copy of this agreement with
signatures of parties involved would
be deposited in the offices of Lahore
and Jammu court and Resident
Lahore.
Signed on Tuesday; 14th of Zeith
1904, corresponding to 25th of May
1847 A.D in Lahore by the four
signatories:
Signed by: Sahib Bhadur Kalan
{denoting exalted status (Big/Bada)
meaning Agent/Resident in Lahore}
All the four emissaries/Trustees/
Appointees (Nishana, in Persian,
which could even mean deputising)
Dina Nath-Kishan Chand-Jwala
Sahay-Mahkum-ud-Din
Article two:
The eastern borders of the territory
transferred, as per article one of this
treaty would be settled and marked
by trustees of British Government
and Maharaja Gulab Singh and noted
in a separate agreement.
Article three:
Maharaja Gulab Singh, in exchange
of territories transferred, as per the
articles noted above, shall pay an
amount 0f 75 lakhs Nanak Shahi
Rupees to Imperial British
Government-50 lakhs immediately
and 25 lakhs within six months.
Article four:
The borders of Maharaja Gulab
Singh’s country would not be
subjected to any change without
consent of British Government.
Article five:
If ever incidentally, a dispute arises
between Maharaja Gulab Singh and
Lahore court or any one of his
neighbouring states, he would take
the dispute to officials of
Government of Company Bhadur and
whatever the settlement, the officials
appointed by Governor General to
look into the matter decide on; shall
be accepted by Maharaja without
reservations.
Article six:
Maharaja Gulab Singh agrees on his
own and on behalf of his successors-
if ever the victorious British army
gets an assignment to be in the
mountainous country or in areas,
close to territories, under his control-
Maharaja, with his all his armed
forces, should present himself, as
and when required by British armed
forces.
Article seven:
Maharaja Sahib agrees never ever to
take the British, European or an
American, in his employment,
without acceptance and permission
of officials of Company Bhadur
Article eight:
Maharaja Sahib agrees to keep in
view/ in consideration articles 5, 6, 7
of a separate agreement between
the British Government and the
Lahore Durbar, signed on 11th March
1846, in the territories transferred to
him.
Note: - While as, what was signed on
9th was named a ‘Treaty’ within two
days, other considerations, in a
rapidly changing political scenario
led to an agreement. In any case,
Lahore hardly had a choice on, what
was being dictated by the victor to
the vanquished.
An English translation of these
articles reads as:-
(5) British Government agrees that
the Jagirs (Land holdings) of
associates Late Maharaja Ranjit
Singh, Late Maharaja Khadak Singh
and Late Maharaja Sher Singh (all
named as Surag-bashi…residents of
Paradise) whose Jagirs are located at
places, which have come to be the
holdings of British Government, as
per articles eight and fourteen of
Lahore treaty of 9th March, shall be
retained by the holders and the
holding deeds shall not be
suspended, as long as the present
holders are alive.
{Note …these Jagirs were between
rivers Ravi and Sutluj and on the
right bank of River Sutluj. Sher Singh
succeeded his brother Khadak Singh,
elder son of Ranjit Singh}
(6) The Lahore court shall seek the
help and cooperation of British
Government, in collecting land tax,
for the ‘Kharif yields’ of the year 1902
Bikramjit (Indian Calendar year) as
well as the pending balance.
(7) The Lahore court shall be entitled
to compile a list of items in their
treasury, assets and stored items in
the places marked in articles three
and four of 9th March treaty and
British Government shall be entitled
to hold, whatever it deems fit, out of
these items, on reasonable
payment. Whatever remains, in case
the Lahore court wants to, shall be
put on auction, in presence of
officials of British Government.
Article nine:
British Government affirms to
safeguard the RAJ and country of
Maharaja from external enemies.
Article ten:
Maharaja Gulab Singh, keeping in
view the absolute supremacy and
ultimate sovereignty of British
Government, agrees to present in
tribute, year after year, a high bred
horse, twelve Tibetan goat woollen
hides of high quality, six male and
six female and a two pairs of
Kashmiri Shawls.
This treaty, based on ten articles was
concluded between Fredrick Kerry
Sahib Bhadur and Major Lawrence
Sahib Bhadur, on behalf of Respected
and highly titled Nawab-Rt. Hon’ble
Sir Henry Harding-GBC-Governor
General, as emissaries/trustees and
Maharaja Gulab Singh, present in
person
Signed (F.Kerry) Signed
(H.M.Lawrence)
The takeover of Kashmir was not
easy. Lahore double crossed. Article
13th of Lahore treaty was invoked,
when Imam-ud-Din, the last
Governor of Lahore court, resisted
the takeover. The British would have
none of it, enforcing Maharaja Gulab
Singh’s army with their own men.
Resistance was subdued and Imam-
ud-Din questioned. He produced
three letters from Raja Lal Singh
advising Governor Imam-ud-Din to
stay put and resist the takeover,
even at the cost of his life. He was
forgiven, while as Lal Singh was
exiled first to Agra and finally to
Dehradun.

DAL LAKE ..........KASHMIR..............

Dal Lake has rightfully become an icon of the Kashmir
tourism industry. A Himalayan urban lake, it has five
basins and a number of channels that are well linked
with each other. There are plenty of fishes in Dal Lake
and fishery is the second largest industry of the region
centered on the lake. The sparkling quiet waters of Dal
surrounded by snow-capped mountains on its three
sides, undoubtedly mark it as one of the most beautiful
lakes of India. It is also the second largest lake in the
State of Jammu and Kashmir with numerous gardens
and orchards all along its shores. Houseboats form an
indelible part of the scenery of the Dal Lake that are
always ready to take tourists to a romantic and
peaceful ride of the lake and soothe their nerves as the
houseboat floats over the slightly rippling waters. They
also offer some of the most exotic views of the
splendid scenery of the Dal Lake.
There are Shikaras that look like small ornate versions
of the gondolas of Venice that offers ferry rides to and
from the banks of the lake to the houseboats. The
shores of the Lake houses the distinct Moghul
monuments and the campus of the Kashmir University
while the two hillocks overlooking the lake house
Shankaracharya and Hari Parbat temples. The glorious
Mughal gardens on its shores contribute to the beauty
of the Dal Lake. Out of about five hundred gardens laid
down in 16th to 17th century, only a few still survive.
There have been controversies about the origin of the
Dal Lake. While some geologists believe that the
origins of Dal Lake lie in the Pleistocene Oligotrophic
Lake that once covered the entire valley of Kashmir,
others just believe it to be a flood plain lake. The
floating gardens of Dal Lake are considered a beauty in
themselves. One can find a number of restaurants and
hotels at the lakefront that have sprung up,
encouraged by the large influx of tourists here.

Hiroshima to Fukushima
Post-Quake Japan On Verge Of
Nuclear Catastrophe
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Fukushima/Tokyo, Mar 15: Japan's
nuclear crisis assumed dangerous
dimensions Tuesday as two more
blasts rocked the quake-crippled
Fukushima plant spewing large
amounts of radioactive material
which may float towards Tokyo,
with Premier Naoto Kan warning
that there was a "very high risk" of
further leakage.
The hydrogen explosions at No.2 and
No.4 reactors at the Fukushima
Daiichi plant this morning prompted
the government to announce that
the radiation had reached harmful
levels. A fire was also reported
around 9:40 am local time at the
No.4 reactor, where spent nuclear
fuels were stored, but it was
extinguished later, according to
Tokyo Electric Power Company
(TEPCO), the plant's operator.
The blast at No.2 reactor at 6:10 am
appeared to have damaged one of
its containment systems for the first
time, triggering fears about more
serious radioactive leaks.
TEPCO said the problem could
develop into a critical "meltdown"
situation after part of the No.2
reactor's container vessel damaged
following the explosion, Kyodo
reported.
A worried Prime Minister Kan, in his
address to the nation, warned that
the radiation had already spread
from the crippled reactors and there
was "a very high risk of further
leakage". He asked an estimated
140,000 people living within 30 kms
of the facility north of capital to
remain indoors and conserve power
as threat loomed large of Japan's
crisis turning into a Chernobyl-like
disaster.
There were fears that the effects of
the explosions and fire at the nuclear
reactors could spread to Tokyo,
home to 12 million people, as the
metropolitan authorities said they
had detected a small amount of
radioactive material such as iodine
and cesium in the air of the city.
The wind was blowing from north to
south when the explosions occurred
at the Fukushima plant.
Japan faced its worst ever nuclear
catastrophe during the final stages
of World War II in 1945, when the
United States conducted two atomic
bombings against the cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These two
events are the only active
deployments of nuclear weapons in
war to date.
The bombings killed around 2.50
lakh people on the first day with
disastrous after-effects.
Meanwhile, the French embassy in
the capital city Tokyo issued an
advisory Tuesday warning that low-
level radioactive winds could hit
Tokyo from the plant located 240
kms away in about 10 hours.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio
Edano said the high radiation level
detected at 10:22 am after the
explosions at the No.2 and No.4
reactors would "certainly have
negative effects on the human
body."
Kyodo, quoting nuclear experts, said
radiation equivalent to 400 times the
level to which people can be
exposed in one year was detected
near the Fukushima's No.3 reactor,
where an explosion had occurred
yesterday.
Residents within a 20-km radius of
the plant had already been ordered
to vacate the area following
Saturday's hydrogen blast at the
plant's No 1 reactor.
All the four plants at Fukushima are
reported to be in critical stage as the
core of the No 1, 2 and 3 reactors are
believed to have partially melted
following Friday's 9 magnitude
earthquake and giant tsunami
waves that have killed an estimated
10,000 people.
Over 2,000 bodies were found
yesterday on two shores in Miyagi
Prefecture, the worst hit by the
earthquake and Tsunami, as Japan
continued to struggle to grasp the
full extent of the disaster.
About 1,000 bodies were washed
ashore on the hardest-hit Miyagi's
Ojika Peninsula while another 1,000
were spotted in the town of
Minamisanriku where the prefectural
government has been unable to
contact about 10,000 people, or over
half the local population.

bleeding kashmir

One of the world’s longest-running
separatist insurgencies, one that has
killed tens of thousands of people in
Kashmir, completed two decades last
month.
The strife-torn region witnessed a
period of relative calm, but a recent
spate of rebel attacks is a grim
reminder of the tensions in Kashmir
at the heart of enmity between
nuclear-armed neighbours India and
Pakistan.
A series of skirmishes across
Kashmir’s border between the South
Asian rivals, which claim the
disputed region in full but rule in
parts, also underline decades of
mistrust between two countries
which have fought two wars over
the region.
With diplomatic limbo between
India and Pakistan and stalled peace
talks between New Delhi and
region ’s separatists, peace seems a
distant dream.
Yasin Malik, one of Kashmir’s most
influential separatist leaders,
recently told Reuters in an interview
that the region risks a return to
militancy and violent protests if
India fails to push a stalled peace
process.
After two decades of campaign, little
headway is visible for resolution of
Kashmir which New Delhi calls the
crown of India, while for Islamabad
it is Pakistan ’s jugular vein.
“For God’s sake, don’t give our next
generation a sense of defeat. If you
are giving them a sense of defeat,
you are pushing them for another
revolution, ” Malik told BBC.
It’s again an uneasy time in Kashmir,
stunningly beautiful but one of the
world ’s most militarized regions.
Increase in rebel incursions into
Kashmir from Pakistan, near daily
gun battles, anti-India protests and
rights violations allegedly by
security forces: is this a re-run of
1989?
Is Kashmir, a near-forgotten conflict,
spinning off into another 20 years of
violence?
The son of a slain politician father. A
daughter, out to become the face of
her father’s vintage political dream.
And a suave son fighting hard to
step out of his father’s shadow. The
verdict in Kashmir is also a story of
the victory of political heirs.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed always
wanted to be Chief Minister. But it
was his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti,
who made the dream come true for
him. From a door-to-door campaign
to a soft separatist stand, their party,
PDP, became a household name in
Kashmir and with only 16 seats, Mufti
became CM in 2002 for three years. It
was Mehbooba who was behind the
meteoric rise of the People’s
Democratic Party. This election,
Mehbooba won again, for the third
consecutive time. But the victory
was not enough to bring them to
power again.
This time, it was the third
generation Abdullah who made a
mark. When Omar Abdullah joined
politics, there were household jokes
about his accent and his non-
Kashmiri ways. He hardly evoked the
loyalty his grandfather Sheikh
Abdullah did among his people, nor
did he have the flamboyance of his
father Farooq Abdullah. In 2002, his
first election, Omar lost from
Ganderbal, the traditional National
Conference bastion. He was written
off by his opponents and friends as
well.
welcome to the beautiful world called HEAVEN on earth KASHMIR
